First Site
Hi,
This is my first site. I'd appreciate a critique.
Thanks,
Mary

You should check your site cross browser, IE, FF and Opera. For example, in Opera your scrolling text is unreadable, in Firefox your bar for your scrolling text spans the entire page while the scrolling text doesn't.
Your menu, in all three browsers, is cut off by the page. Meaning, parts of the menu are under the page.
The menu is also confusing because no matter what page I am on it says I am "home". I assume this because I can't click on the word "home". Maybe you should change it to the word "menu".
The image and logo are great though, makes the site look professional.

Thank you. Do you have any suggestions as to how would I resolve these cross-browser issues? Just not use the scroll?
I appreciate the advice.

for the marquee you currently have width="770" change that to 100% ... however ...
I never recommend using the marquee it's just not valid html you would be better served using a simple flash animation or no scroll at all.
keep the site simple, the code clean, and the content direct.
are you using MSWord or Frontpage on that? whichever it is I would recommend updating the code to xhtml from html. xhtml simply is more current, and the standards are stricter meaning the wysiwyg (what you see is what you get) editor will (generally) produce better code.
page is a bit long too, if you need the length then add a 'top' link or recreate some of the site menu in the footer to make it easier for visitors to navigate.
just some basic things, there's lots more you can do, but it's a decent start. Heck my first sites with Netscape Composer (10 years ago) weren't as nice as this one, lol.
All the best!

Thank you, all you guys. I have a bit of work to do! I have new content to put up on Living-Kosher.com, then I have to finish up the www.SeeItFirst.biz site, and hopefully get to my own SweeneyFISH.com sometime.
I like this. It's an old editor's dream job. Content and design! (Please, designers do not throw Exactos at me! I always liked this work.)
Thanks for all the help,
Mary

I agree that you've made a good first attempt. I'd tone down the yellow.
I'm not a fan of Times New Roman font either. It's great in print, but it's not as easy to read online. Go with Verdana, Tahoma, or - if you want serifs - Georgia.

I know the yellow is a bit hot. I need to address that.
I've chosen Verdana, which I think is a beautiful font, and as I get a bit of time, will update the site along those lines. Do you think 10 point is too small?
Thanks for the advice,
Mary
