Default ERICKS Webdesign

As always I am busy with a presentation of myself and what I do...The goal of this website is to inform people (future clients of ERICKS Webdesign!) that need a website but totally have no idea of what to expect when they actually are getting one.

This is it:
www.ericks.nl

I have created a 'Safari' version and a 'IE' version and on the 'main index' page there is a 'automated redirect'. So there are 2 url's actually:

www.ericks.nl-safari and www.ericks.nl-IE

It is tested on my Mac and on the Windows laptop of my girlfriend, but that's it...

I would love to hear what you people here think of it and allthough the site is in dutch I think you will get the picture...

Colour!!

For me the background design and page colour are a bit too much.

I dont mean to be rude and i appreciate it is you choice but for me when i see strong colours used i instantly think of pop ups and ads..

i think if you want to start up a webdesign site it really has got to be spot on, after all a client will judge what to expect from your work.

Good luck..

Hi 3rick!

I did take a look at yoursite when you first posted it here, but didn't have much positive to say about it - so said nothing.

A designer's site is going to be be particularly scrutinized for its visual features by all who visit, including potential clients.

They will be surprised that it won't fit their screen if they are using a 800 pixel-resolution screen. The may also wonder where the menu is with that resolution too. The colours may put them off and if they use Firefox they may wonder why they get diverted to http://www.ericks.nl/2006/safari/.

They may also wonder why, when scrolling in Firefox, your name remains in position and blocks the text. They may find the justified text hard to follow.

Those viewing in larger resolutions may wonder if the nasty repeating backgrounds, much favored in the 90s, are back. I don't believe they are.

Frankly they won't get their socks blown off by cutting-edge design ideas.

They won't see that it vaildates or that the code is neat.

Yeah...the colours have got to go. At very least, tone the purple down a couple pegs.

Then there's the background pattern...it's a pretty dated style all around really.

Kudos for clear code and table-less design, but i doubt people visiting will stay long enough to check it out.

Best of luck!

Hi Erick,

A really good effort but I would have to agree that the colour is not quite right.

Change the background as well, a plain purple would be better. Get a book about colours and there effects on people.
(I personally do do not like the colour you use, but it does not matter to me in the way I am looking at your site)

Centred is not a problem as long as people can see what you are about.

Play around a bit because there is nothing basically wrong, you just, will only appeal to a limited market.

Hi,

Saw your site. I like some of the work you have done for clients.

Your site - the color has to go. From one web designer to another get a lot of white space. Stick to black or dark blue or dark grey font on white background (easily readable) and take away the patterned background too distracting.

With a little bit of work It will look good!!

First of all, I appreciate the Safari link to your site, so dank u wel.

I actually like the textured background, I think it's more interesting. I agree with the others that's it's a little to monochromatic with all the purple, but since it's a site for webdesign, I wouldn't make it too boring and just use the traditional black, white, and blue. Have fun with it and get creative. People who want a site designed for them want it to be clean, but they also want it to look cool and stand out from everyone elses so it's memorable.

One last thing, you might want to make the menu bar in a different frame so you don't always have to scroll to the bottom of the page to get to it.

Default A Few Words to help

Eric: Frankly I like bright colors and stuff that captures my eyes! But there is this thing that the Google guys call Ad blindness, which is essentially the fact that some colors are so offensive to people that it turns them off all together. Unfortunately, I have to say dump the purple haze site and pick one that is more acceptable. It's not bad to be different. Lord knows we see all kinds of junk on the web, but it's a bitttt tooooo much. The rest of the site is very basic. Good luck with reworking the site to make it professionally acceptable. Then work on the text to beef it up and communicate what you're selling upfront and quick before you lose them with one quick click of the mouse.

It seems there is to much going on with the background pattern and those distracting colors. Try something a little more simple , make it fit in all resolutions and keep it as tidy as possible.

I often have trouble with color myself so don't take this the wrong way, but, you do have potential and I wish you all the best. Good luck!

Default Crap!.

Mmhh...Back to the old drawingboard it is...

Thanks for all these honest and constructive reviews!.

The 90's backgrounds I always like, but I must agree....Potential clients might indeed not. I will be back in a few weeks with another try...

Sigh...

P.S. It seems like the 'notify me when a reply is posted ' thingie isn't working correctly, therefore this late response...
