This is the forum for you. When submitting your site, be sure to discuss what aspect you are looking for input on. Just posting a link with the word 'review' isn't appropriate. |

It's been a few months, but I've done a rework of my site. The content is the same, but it should have a more professional look now. Navigation has been made easier with additional links. The template is formatted all in CSS with the <table> element only being used for tables. Everything verifies with w3c, and page content is more toward the beginning of the file to aid with search engine keyword ranking. Contact is now through a form, not a mail link.
Thanks for your constructive input. Ron http://www.ddytalk.com |

I'm pretty impressed by the design and functionality of the website.
The only thing I noticed that didn't seem to be working right is that animated gif on the homepage. The animation seems to change speed and/or pause, and the real problem with that is I'm seeing what looks like a double-exposure way too much of the time. The problem isn't real consistent either - sometimes I see nice quick transitions between photos. If I were REALLY looking for things to tinker with, I believe I could reduce the size of the CSS file by about 50 percent. Also, as strongly as I feel that web designers should validate their code, I would remove the little gifs under the nav bar. (They're ugly, and they're not adding value for the visitor.) |

Technically it's hard to find much to fault.
Perhaps title attributes to the menu items. And the link to www.dennisdeyoung.com takes you away from your site. I'd prefer smaller or resizeable fonts, especially for the menu. Design-wise it's a tad dark and perhaps lacks a feeling of enthusiasm for the subject. In all a very competent and professionally produced site.

CJacobson/Paul B-
Thank you for your comments. It really makes me feel good to see someone say that I have created a "competent and professionally produced site." The homepage .gif was designed with a 5 second delay on each image, then a five frame double exposure fade to the next image, and repeat. I was thinking about shortening the delay to 4 seconds, because it just feels too long, but it should display nice and even. I don't want to play with it too much, since I have received many positive comments about that image. I guess I got a little carried away with the css file--I never realized it was over 600 lines. I'm not sure how to go about cutting that in half, though. I've reduced the fonts from 11pt to 10pt and I think it should look better. The color scheme and menu design were initially done by the same person that designed my forum skin because I wanted a uniformity between the two. While the forum is light while the main site is darker, the dark blue theme still carries through, and is a lot less annoying than the bright blues I initially used. While it is not a normal practice to have a link that takes you away from your site in the menu, my logic was this: As a fan site, the site is not about me, it is about the artist. The artist needs to be recognized above all other things, otherwise it is not a true fan site. So a link to that artist's website is important, since visitors to my site will also want to visit the artist's website. Thanks for your input Ron |
