Default slightly controversial in light of recent events...

I've been asked to design and build a website advertising places for medical and clinical trials.

so far I've got this:

www.medtrials.co.uk/

It's a bit of a rush job - I was given a couple of hours to come up with the logo and layout (business cards had to be printed for a conference). I'd just like to be sure that I've got the tone right. The clients are quite happy, but I think it needs some more friendly faces / reassuring copy.

All suggestions / comments very welcome - I have another 3 days to finish off the design and I'm a bit suck as I had no lead time to start with!

Am I right, two hours for a logo, business card and website layout?
That's just ridiculous. You've done well but that's hardly a logo and what can they learn from the proposed layout?

If so, they are ill-prepared for this project and I would be sceptical about their longevity.

Applications for drug testers have risen enormously since the publicity about six people nearly dying in the UK. I would avoid this like the plague.

Good luck.

well, ok - 2 hours was a bit of an exaggeration. I got back from holiday on Thursday evening to an email asking for something by end of work on Friday :-)

Ok, so "controverisal" stuff aside, here is what I think about the site:

It looks clean, and refreshing, and the tones are calming and professional. I think it's a great start for a site that took such little time. My main advice, if it is ok with your client, swap the placement of the menus (the ads on the right, and the nav should go on the left) I understand, if the client specifically wanted this, after all, they're paying the bills! Haha.

Good Luck! I hope the forum doesn't give you a hard time about the topic of your site... after all, this is a web design critique.

Keep up the good work!

God Bless!

Katie

Congratulations. You now know you can make something out of practically nothing. Because of that, you're totally, utterly screwed.

Why?

Because people like this tell other people that you can do absolutely anything on time and on a shoestring budget. Now everyone and their cousin will expect the same thing: "Do this cheap, and do it five minutes ago."

That is the biggest problem with the site...not the content, not the layout, not the logo, not the site itself...but the fact that you'll get asked to do it again, and again, andagainandagainandagain.

Having said all that, it's not bad. It's neat, it's clean, it's nice to look at (although somewhat lacking in contast.

Check your code, though. You've got some tags in all caps. XHTML no-no, and all that. But that's my only suggestion, and it's a very minor one.

Do you people have Dancing With the Stars on the TV? Well my review is a bit like the judges on this show - one will love the dancing yet the others will not.

To me, there are no boundaries - the menu links blend into the body text. I do not see that as clean.

Also, you love text formatting! So many different ways your have formatted your text and you are using Arial as well as Verdana and so the text looks messy.

I would be bringing the 'logo' higher to the top to save on valuable 'real estate'. white space is good but not that much.

etc etc ;-)
Thanks for those comments, I've been and had another look at the site - you're absolutely right! I can see tomorrow will be "tidy up" day. I think I'll move the menu to the left as suggested and then get to work on the CSS formatting...

ADAM Web Design wasn't totally right - I haven't quite put myself out of a job :-) but I do understand his point of view. Sometimes, though, it's just go to be done.

Thanks again and I do appreciate the comments
