Default Shirts for the boss - mens business shirts and ties

Hello, we've just launched www.shirtsfortheboss.com and wonder whether our home page and search results page are a bit too complicated to understand? We're thinking of making some changes to the website to make it easier to search and find the shirts but not sure exactly if and what needs to be done?

If you get a moment, it would be great if you can visit our website and give us any feedback about usability or any other issues so that we can improve the product.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi Crows

First of all the site has a good feel to it and it resizes well at 800 x 600 with no horizontal scroll bars. So no problems with layout.

I am looking at your site and there isn't much on the home page to entice someone into buying a shirt. It just goes straight to advanced search and there are two tiny pictures right at the bottom that don't look very appealing. Its almost like saying "come into our shop, find what you want and buy something".

Theres nothing wrong with search on your page, but it doesn't have to be that big and detailed on the opening page. I'd say, keep the quick search at the top and have the more detailed search on another page. And use the home page to show your best/new products and explain what you do and what makes you stand out from other shirt sellers.

Also, on your search when I look for any shirt and tie, I get all ties and not shirt and ties. And opting for Pierre Cardin ties in the same search, all Gloweave come up first. Too specific a search seems to come up with 0 results. This can be quite frustrating. Just a thought, but couldn't alternatives for this specified search come up when a search returns no results?

HTH. If you would like me to look into the site further, then please fee free to let me know.

Best regards

PS do you really look like Jude Law? ;)

Your site is lacking in graphical product appeal. The homepage needs enticing photos at first eye level with images of your products, not a bunch of dropdown boxes for searching. I'd recommend creating a page for each product and put the dropdowns there.

Once you do get into the products, the images are very nice and the details are very helpful - nice job on product presentation!

The menu bar needs some kind of mouseover effect so a visitor knows those links are live.

Reply to MarcieZoob and dharrison,

Hello, thanks so much for the feedback on our website. (Apologies for the delay replying to your comments).

Your feedback is excellent and reinforced what we suspected….that our home page is too detailed and particularly unattractive.

We’ve decided to cut some of the search criteria and push it to an Advanced Search…testing shows this revised search criteria also eliminates most of the times where results are not found etc. Also, with the home page we are now in the process of setting up a simpler page where there are a couple of big buttons to press with a product image behind. This should hopefully liven up things a bit and make it more attractive plus easier to get into the site.

Thanks again for the excellent feedback….very much appreciated.
Ian.

PS: Unfortunately I don’t really look like Jude Law but my friends reckon I seem to get into as much trouble as him….which is why my business partners chose his pic for me on the website.

Hi,

Some disagree, but the option for searching for brands is in a counter-intuitive spot.

Also, if you are trying to sell much outside of Australia, then sizes in inches should be listed in the search box and product descriptions.

The celebrity images for Meet the Team are amusing but also probably illegal. They don't pop up to the proper size, either. Try showing yourselves, please.

The logo is very nice.
