Default Requesting review of www.lookupthis.com

Hi,

I developed lookupthis.com couple of years ago for my own personal use. The aim was to maintain all my bookmarks online.

There were many other sites out there which performed the same tasks but i was not sure if my bookmarks would remain there forever or if they would keep track of my surfing privacy.

Over the year, I happened to notice that a lot many similar sites have cropped up such as Yahoo My Web, Amazon A9, Furl, and the other countless ones.

Most of these sites had loads of features not available on my site. Yet I felt lookupthis.com was worth maintaining and also make it available for others.

So I tweeked the site a bit, made it more userfriendly and general purpose and added a few new ideas such as "democratic shared ad spaces".

The main aim of my website (for my own personal use and others) is to provide a simple search engine like platform for posting ones favorites sites online and be able to search it too. The other aim is the provide online privacy by not tracking personal information.

Though my site is getting a lot of hits, not many are registering for the free service. So someone told me most people would not understand how to use lookupthis.com and asked me to post something that would help.

So i created a FAQ, Help and Demo.

I wanted to know if there is anything more that I need to do so that people come to know what lookupthis is about and start using it.

Regards

Default A simple suggestion

I don't see the word FREE on your homepage. If it's truly a free service, you should make a point of that fact right up front, since so many sites ask you to sign up and then ask for money.

Also, I'd use a sans-serif font (like Arial and Verdana). Change your <body> statement to <body style="font-family:sans-serif">. The page will look a lot better.

Your website looks very good and the FAQ page was extremely helpful because I personally don't know anything about bookmarking. The only thing that I might change is on your main page the heading "Access your Personal Bookmarks with your LookupThis Account for FREE." I might put the LookupThis logo where now it just in regular text. It would pop out to the visitor a bit more and thats always a good thing so that they will remember the name of your site and use a ! instead of a . to end the sentence so it has some enthusiasim. Hope this helps! Good luck with it.

I like your concept.
The biggest problem I see is a lack of consistent navigation. It would be much easier if you had a menu on each page, rather than having to use the back button. It doesn't have to be anything fancy. Simple text links would work fine, even if you just add them to the bottom of each page (although the top would be better).
Also, you usually get more reviews if your link is clickable. I will add one for you: lookupthis.com free bookmark manager.
Good luck,
CiCi

edit-I just noticed that surprise is missing the second "r" in your tag line!

Thanks for appreciating the concept and giving your suggestions.

I am enouraged by the response I got to the wesbite and have made changes to it reflecting the suggestions made here and elswhere.

Lookupthis is a vehicle using which you can make money. I wish people understood that and how to use it.

More suggestion to project this would be welcome
