I need some help. Would you guys care to review this site. Only the front page is fine. BUT if you feel you have to do more that would be ok also.

www.yourweb.info

I am having a problem with the 3 column look. The 3rd column will not stay next to the middle column. It wants to go all the way to the right which when a user goes to the site they have to click the bar in order to see it.

I have redone this site many many times and I still get this. I do not know if I missed putting some source code or not.

I have asked others to look at the page and so far no one has been able to tell me what I did or what I might do to correct this problem.

Hello everyone,

I posted a site review on this site someplace. I don't remember if I posted it here or in some other section. I thought I better do this right so I might have 2 posts in this section. Please bear with me on this since this is my first time here.

Any ways would you guys be so kind and take a look and see at this site and tell me what you think. The good as well as the bad.

www.yourweb.info

I have a problem with my 3rd column. It does not want to stay by the middle column. It wants to go all the way to the right, which a user than has to click on the bar to see it. So can anybody tell me what I did wrong and do you have the answer to how to fix it?

I have redone this site I don't know how many times trying to figure this out. No luck. I even have asked others to help out. Again no luck. I have not found anybody yet that can tell me what I did wrong and what the answer to it is.

So if you guys would. Thanks to all that answer.

You have a nice selection of links. Perhaps a little upgrade in layout and logo. You can also add a search function.

Hi,

Your site layout is very basic and somewhat messy from what I can tell. Did you make a basic hand-drawing of how you wanted the site to look or was it built off the cuff?

I'm certainly impressed with the amount of content you have, however you are not doing the site justice with over use of colours and waaaay too much extraneous flashy buttons and banners. Try thinking about who you want your audience to be and then start thinking like them. Once you know what they want, you can start building on that.

Don't be disheartened from my 'bad' review, every web designer has generally made the same mistakes as yourself. If it takes a redesign to get it how you want it, then by all means do so.

I just find the site a bit too garish for my taste, so you could think about reducing the number of different colours, and instead pick one main colour, and use different shades of that colour for certain elements of the site and maybe one or two complimentary colours as well.

Your pages are a little large as well. To get at your own content a lot of scrolling is required. Surfers are not keen on scrolling. You might want to consider halfing the size of your pages.

Thanks for the kind words.

I know I need a logo. Been looking for one. Have not found any thing that I liked. I went with just the letters just to put something up there.

As for layout, what do you mean or suggest? I like the 3 column layout. I know I could other things in them. I have been adding and taking away over time. So what do you suggets in this area?

Having a very basic site was the idea behind it. I got it from my next door neighbor who is 70+. Said he had a hard time with other sites. Said this was one of the few sites he did not have to change the fonts to look at. I thought this some thing good.

As for messy care to go into that more. Not sure if you mean the whole site or just parts of it.

Thanks for being impressed with the amount of content. I tried to have text links but some of those merchants don't have any and you have to go with what they got. In order to make that area look good I figured I had to go with what I found. I tried mixing them but it did not look good.

As for my audience I want the everyday shopper to come to my site and shop from there. Hence the basic look. Most people I chatted with told me this. I just might be putting myself in this class of people. I don't know.

I don't take this as a bad review. I take it as there are things that I need to do and correct. Trying to find the equal ground I figure is hard enough and once you get it trying to keep it is something else.

By garish look your saying that www.yourweb.info is to flashy or bright looking? Is that a bad thing to have? Does this mean that it bothers your eyes to look at the site?

I have redisgned this site so many times. Everytime I do a update I change things on it. I know this is part of operating a site.

I do believe I have 4 main colors on the site. Main parts are in pink and blue. Pink background with blue border. Did not like the total pink background. Did not look good when I did this. I have a background of white that everything else is on. I thought it would break up the site some by doing this. I have gray on one side to show that there is a difference between the 3 columns. Gray on the left, pink in the middle and gray on the right. Take a look at this site? They have the colors going down instead of right to left. I see about 5-6 colors on this site. Does it make this site bad in their theme of colors?

You got that right in my pages are a little to large. I keep on working them in trying to make them as small as I can. Trying to come up with the perfect parts is a hard thing so far. I have a few ideas on making them smaller but do not know how to put the code in the right places to do this.

Thanks for the input. You made me think of a few things that I need to do. This is why I opened my site up to others to find out what needs to be done or maybe try. I hope others do the samething here. Give the good as well as the bad.

Again thinks for the input

Sincerely yours

Hi yourweb,

Have you tried using a 3 colums table 100% width with each colomn having 33% width?

Hope this helped

Howdy.

We spoke this morning over the phone about a reciprocal link. I took another look at your site and at the reviews here and thought I might give you a jumpstart by offering a sample template/header for some ideas/inspiration.

You seemed to like the colors on our site, so I based it off that green/white combination. It's a good color scheme for e-commerce-oriented sites. Pink and blue, on the other hand... they aren't as visually appealing. You have a lot of good content, like someone else mentioned - it's just not laid out that well. You mentioned you weren't a designer - that's completely fine - nobody starts out knowing how to use Photoshop and/or other design tools. It's a learning process, and a process well worth the time it takes to learn.

The hands holding the globe are just stock photography from GettyOne (www.GettyOne.com) with some modifications - again, just to give you some ideas. Hope this helps out a bit.

The design is 780 pixels wide - which is the proper width to accommodate 800x600 resolutions (you normally need 20 pixels for the scrollbars). I would suggest sticking with the fixed-width designs for now - as you become more experienced, you can switch to liquid/scalable/resizeable layouts.

Final note - please don't take this as the proverbial fish feeding you for one day - learn how to fish. :)

Thanks for the info. Right now we do not have any funds that we can use in order to do any any of the upgrades we would like to do. We are working on a "fund free budget". We have tried to do all of the work ourselves. Since the last post we have updated our site. Changed the layout.

Thanks for the offer.

your logo is nice, but I wasn't sure what the site name was because the Popcorn factory is on top next to your name... This is your site, not the popcorn factory or anyone else's... make it known who you are.
Also, your logo is squashed on your other pages... I only went to 2, so that's all I can comment on.
you have NO link structure.... once you are off the home page, you have to go to the bottom of the page to find home... get a consistent link structure throughout your entire site.
and... the pink background is just not good... take jhilgeman's advice about making your site green and white... pink is just not professional looking... looks too much like a personal site.
keep working at it... your ideas are good...

I neglected to mention the font in my previous post... you should be consistent and use the same font throughout your site... I noticed three different fonts on the index page alone.... it gives the impression that you are not paying attention and just letting the default font appear in your side tables...

Default Site Suggestions

I agree with all comments made about your site, The one design flaw (so to speak) is the fonts, You have times new roman scattered with others. In my opinion I would use a nice uniform looking font such as arial or verdana throughout the site, Give it a hint of consistency.

The text is the same colour as the links and the pink background dont look brilliant, cutting the bulk of text in your main paragraph with an image would break the page down a bit. the above design is superb, a nice fresh white would make the site look so much cleaner.

Good Luck with it, with a bit of tweeking you'll be well on your way!

Ok I changed the fonts. Most of them are now verdana. Tell me what you think of it now.

I also changed the background on the main page only. Will change the rest as update the pages. I am doing a major over haul right now and am just about done with that. When done will start on the background and fonts for the rest of the site.

Thanks to all for the input. It is helping me alot. Now if I only can get the traffic to it.

THANKS AGAIN TO ALL!!

The text in the tables/boxes on the right side of the screen still have a default font... I think you should change them to be more consistent..
Your logo is not resized properly... it is squashed down.
Although you changed the color of your background, it is still not a professional looking color... You should take the advice jhilgeman... create a white background with dark green accents... the sample he gave you is extremely professional looking and I think you should listen to the help he offered.

I took another look at your site - getting rid of the pink background made the site look 10 times better. It looks halfway-decent now!

Here are some small, additional suggestions:
1) Why would anyone want to sign up for your newsletter? Most people get enough e-mail as it is. You need to give them a good reason to join. Right now it's just a small, hidden link off to one side. Provide some sample, past newsletters so people can see what they're getting themselves into and tell them how many times it gets sent out.

2) LEARN Photoshop. I cannot stress this enough for your particular site. It is an expensive program, but you can use it to take your site to some very nice levels. Some nice graphics would breathe a whole new life into your site. For instance, winning a free limo for your Prom is currently invisible, but you could make it much more prominent (pun unintended) and exciting if you had a good image of a limo with some dressed-up teens getting in. Again, I can't stress it enough - your site practically depends on good graphics, and right now, you're starving it.

3) Prioritize what your visitors would like to see. For instance, you say that if a visitor can't find a certain product, they can contact you and you'll find it for them. With a good graphic and some more promotion of this idea, it could be a lifeline for your site.

I looked at your site before. It has changed a lot and looks great now. I would change the background color on the rest of your pages but very nice looking site.

First off I would like to say thanks Janet for the kind words. Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. I have been updating the site.

Everyone else, I think I have all of the pages changed except for the apparel and one other area. The apparel section will start to look like the rest as I start to apply to more apparel merchants. The other area I am thinking of dropping.

Which brings me to my next improvement I want to do on the site. Where can I find a language script that will let a person who speaks any type of foregin language look at the site in their language? I had at one time the place to get that script from but when I updated to xp I lost all of me contacts, favorites and emails I was saving. Now I can not find it.

The limo gif I do not need. The top do you want to rent this text area just had that text in that area so that I could see what it would look like.

Also someone asked about the can't find area and I will help you. What do you suggest be said in that area. Would a graphic be more suited in that area or leave as text.

Always looking for improvments to the site. If you have any ideas that you think would look good and be good for the site, by all means tell me and I will check them out.
