Default Please review our site! www.majesticoncall.com

Hi! My name is Karen and I am the "webmaster-in-training" for my families' website. I have no formal training. . .only the hands-on skills that I have acquired from working on our site. I would really love to have honest feedback on our site and ways I can improve it. I'm willing to review other sites in exchange for your critiques both good and bad. Thank you for all your help. (This is my first time posting.)

Oops! I forgot to mention that we are located in Oxnard, CA. We've had our website up for just about 1 year, but no success. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Please advise.

Thanks again,

Karen Markle

johngroup,

Thanks for looking at my site, however, I'm not sure what you mean by "link down". Would you please explain?

Karen,
He means he couldn't get to your site because you have a typo in your signature. Here's a good link.

You are missing the c in call.

Hi Karen,
Thanks for the tips and comments on my site, it was very helpful.
I looked at your site and liked the layout and easy navigation. I am not an expert in the "code" department yet, but noticed that you don't have any keywords. Also, on your sub-pages you don't use any "description" tags.
Other than that, your site loads really slow and I saw a whole column of code like:
fix2 += 'h';
fix2 += 'e';
fix2 += 'l';
fix2 += 'p';
fix2 += '_';
fix2 += 'd';
But I do not know what this means, maybe someone else can help out here with an explanation (please).
Good Luck!
Scott

muellertime,

I, too, appreciate you taking the time to check out my site. We, my family and I, purchased our site from one of the various companies offering builder sites. They gave me the bare bones on how to set the site up, but no other help with addressing codes or such. I have the option to pay them for further assistance OR I can learn how to do this on my own. Currently I'm choosing to learn it myself.

Since our site is under their proprietary rules, I don't know exactly how much room I have to manipulate any source codes or errors other than adding keywords and meta descriptions. Speaking of those two things,. . . *scratching my head* I'm still trying to figure out how to choose the most effective keywords for my site, as well as, choosing the best meta description.

If anyone out there can break that down for me I would certainly appreciate it. I'm here to learn from those willing to teach. I'm not real sure why the site takes so long to load. I'm like you, muellertime, I haven't got a clue as to what those columns of code mean, so I'll be on the lookout for someone to explain that to me.

Again, thanks for your review!
Karen

I doubt you will have much success with an off-the-shelf site that is selling such a wide range of goods so that you are competing with half the ecommerce sites on the web - including the others that the company you bought the site off sold, probably in the 100s.

As a customer would you prefer to buy from a specialist/expert or someone that sold iPods, aftershave and $800 watches under the same roof?

Google won't like you site either because there is a lot of duplicated content from other sites...

I agree with Paul completely...there are SO MANY of this exact same site, selling the exact same things out there and you don't seem to offer anything to set you apart.

As for the site itself, I'd add a bit of style to the menu, and do some work on your header/logo (at least bump up the image quality). Your content area is a bit on the chaotic-side, so perhaps a bit of division w/ borders would help.

Best of luck.

Paul,
You have a valid point, one in which we are actually discussing. We started out this venture wanting to offer a variety of things, but found that we would be better suited if we scaled back and focused on fewer things. Thank you for being so kind with your review.

ran_dizolph,
Your suggestions are good ones, too. Problem comes into play with my ability to manipulate the template I purchased. Now that I'm getting some honest feedback on our site, I'm beginning to understand the importance of either building the site from scratch (which currently I have NO experience in that) or I need to make sure that the template(s) I purchase enables me to make as many changes as necessary for success.

The header/logo, is indeed my first feeble attempt. I will try to make some changes to improve that. Unfortunately, borders in the content area...I don't think I'll be able to change that if I stay with this template. Thanks for checking out my site.
