I have a suspicion that my site ( www.jasperlittman.co.uk ) may have been sandboxed by Google as it is highly ranked on Overture but nowhere to be found on Google.
Despite it being given a Google PageRank of 4 it does not show up on the following keywords: bespoke tailor bespoke suit visiting tailor Savile Row It may be because I spend about £500 a month on Google Adwords and they are protecting their investment. All opinions would be most welcome.

Hi inchpractice,
It may have something to do with having index.html and index.php in the root of your site for a start. index.php has no meta tags but index.html does. Is there a reason for having the two files? html has pr4 and php has pr3. You could be making much better use of html tags throughout the site too. You may be being penalised for duplicate content or something???? |

Hi Randelld,
Thanks for your reply, I'm glad someone finally did! The reason I have two different file types is because I asked It's Cold Outside (an SEO company) to work on the site and they wanted to use .php to increase web rankings. However they didn't remove the original html file in case I cancelled the contract. I've cancelled it now so I'm hoping that they'll delete all of their SEO files. When you say "You could be making much better use of html tags throughout the site too." I have given every page a metatag containing relevant keywords for that page. What more can I do?

Hi
You could make far better use of alt tags, anchor texts, keyword placement, etc. If I was you I would log into your ftp account and remove the php copy. When you search google for jasperlittman the html copy is the one that comes up. |

Surprised your SEO company did not use meta tags, <H1> and page title tags with your keyphrases in. Infact 'bespoke tailor' only appears on your homepage in a link anchor. I doubt you'll ever get anywhere near the top for that phrase. The same applies to 'bespoke suit'. 'visiting tailor' doesn't appear anywhere on the home page! Whereas 'jasper littman' represents 40% of the total text on the home page - you rate #1 in google.co.uk for that. So without keywords on the page, SEs will never pick them up...

Thanks for your advice Paul,
I'll chase them up to make sure that they remove their old files. The reason I haven't changed the title metatag on the home page is because the company logo says 'Jasper Littman - The Finest Personal Tailoring' so I wanted it to match that. The metatags on all other pages have been changed though. They all include keywords that are relevant and also mentioned on that particular page. Bespoke tailors is mentioned on the home page as is bespoke suit. The word bespoke appears several times, however as I say the metatag does not match. Not surprising that i'm no 1 on Google for Jasper Littman when there aren't any other businesses on the planet called Jasper Littman. However people won't be typing that into Google very often at all.
