Default Honest feedback and review of Safety.com

Dear Group,

During the past 90 days we have had some success obtaining ranking with google for the following key words;
Safety product - #4
Safety products- #8
Safety equipment - #18
Safety training - #20
Safety expert - #12

However, we would like to have 50-60 keys words at similar ranking...some have suggest alternate URL's...
So I would welcome your comments and suggestions regarding look and feel or website, use of color, fonts, content, easy of use, ordering, user experience and any suggestions regarding optimizing our website for other key words like respirators, first-aid kits, goggles, hand protection, hearing protection, gloves, hardhats etc.

I or my CTO will be glad to review others websites...We have learned just enough to get by...

The website looks fine. The only issue I had was every photograph you use are so dark that in some cases you can't even make out the item. Metalmag being particularily bad. I would use some items with a lighter background scene.

Your site seems clean and simple. This serves its purpose. Two things I noticed that you might want to either consider or look at:

1) You product navigation falls below the fold so I don't know that you are offering products for sale. I would suggest moving the customer login to the right side of the window and bring your product navigation all the way to the top, putting the search function under it. If the goal is to sell products and make money, then put it at the top. This will also move that info closer to the top in your coding. Better for SEO as I understand it.

2) Your header navigation script does not allow you to click over text. If you try it, you will see that you can only click on the link if you are beside the text of that link. A lot of people will find this very frustrating as it is NOT the norm for corporate navigation.

The pictures look fine to me. One thing to consider when dealing with pictures are your monitor settings. If your contrast and brightness are turned to far above 50%, then you will be over compensating for the image colors and contrast when editing; which would inadvertantly make your images darker on a default set monitor. Just a thought.

Best of luck.

All the pages should have the same lay out and look.
Your drop down menu from what I can see is not needed.
Other than that the site looks good.

contrast is set right at 50. Maybe it's just these old eyes but I find the pictures dark :-))

Default Problem with navigation bar

I'm using IE6 on WinXP and have a problem with the navigation menus. When you hover the mouse over the TEXT part of the menu, the mouse pointer disappears and is replaced by a Text Select cursor. This makes it very difficult to select the link I want because as soon as my mouse touches the text, the dropdown disappears. Unless I use very precise mouse movement I am unable to select the link I want.

I really like your site--in fact, I bookmarked it. I am a Physical Therapist, and I work a lot with Ergonomics and Occupational Medicine, so your site is right up my alley.

I do agree, though, that your graphics are somewhat dark and or difficult for discerning details. The MetalMag one is impossible.

Other than that, it is interesting, has good info, and seems easy to navigate. I forgot to check out the dropdown menu, though.

I would be very interested in having you review my site:http://www.oaktreept.com. I probably shouldn't admit this here, but I'm not in the forums a lot, so I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't mind cc'ing your comments to me by e-mail.

I had no problems with the photos... even MetalMag was clear to view (and I have old eyes that need glasses)..
also, I had no problems with the drop down menu... I did not have to have precise movement with my mouse.

Nice site!

Default Background Color

Nice site.

You have received a lot of good feedback. I do have one pet peave of mine I'd like to share that I normally remain quiet about:

Set your background color to white.

Most browsers have a white background by default, but not all (especially if someone changes their default).

Default Expandable

I think its pretty important to make the site work for various resolutions. This can be done in a number of ways, the most successful being an expandable layout (width=%) such as the one on this site.

The page adjusts according to the size of the browser window. I dislike an unplanned white column on the right hand side of the page. Even just making the top frame expandable would help.

Otherwise the site is pretty concise, I agree that the photos are a bit murky. Play with brightness and contrast.

Good luck! (-;
