My site www.preeventacne.com informs visitors about Acne, spots, pimples, blackheads, home facials and generally all you need to know in order to keep your skin blemish free.I have designed and formulated a peel-off face and body mask that I wish to market via my site.I am a total novice in this area but am told there is great potential on the web.I need to know how to invite visitors to my site. How do I go about marketing my product online without being robbed blind by people promising to send me millions of visitors for $$$? ________________

You have some space that has no colour set - so it appears non-white with a non-white Windows background set.

You only have PayPal as an option. If you want big bucks then you're going to need to accept major credit cards.

The text is well-written and clear.

Reading it raised an enigma: if people used to believe that eating fatty foods caused acne, but this has now been proved wrong, shouldn't the fact that 'most acne sufferers eat a healthy diet, are often vegetarian...' be telling us something about healthfood nuts and vegetarians? :)

I'm sure you're aware that this is a huge market and there's a lot of comptition from large companies. So competing by search engine placement is going to be difficult unless you start getting a lot of hits.

I suggest you post a specific question in SEO and other marketing forums on WPW to get the advice from people who know a lot more about that subject.

Default review on preeventacne.com

Hi Sualdam,
Thank you for your comments on the site.I am using a "Template" designed for me by a friend.I would be responsible for the content on the site. The site is meant to inform on the subject of skin blemishes and acne and I am hoping to kill some of the "MYTHS" surrounding the causes of acne, thus the info on diet and acne.I do have an online secure payment system in place under the button ORDERS and ONLINE orders. All the gifs are linked to my secure shopping cart. However I do take your point. The PAYPAL gif may give the impression that it is the only facility available.Perhaps I should place a VISA card picture next to this?I`ll take up your suggestion on SEO and marketing. Thanks

Hi Pillpusher and Welcome to WPW

You have a nice looking site, but you need a logo.
The red text on the background is hard to read.

I also do not like the background not moving with the text.

Your meta tags are not set up right.

Other than that you have a great looking site

Hi Janeth,
Thanks for your comments. We chose the red text after consulting a "web designer" and the figure in the background is in the template designed for me by an "expert".Just shows how everybody has different ideas.I`ll have to look into the meta tags though. How do you "set them right"?

Just goes to show that not everyone should be designers and never believe someone who calls themselves expert. It is not a matter of ideas. It is a matter of basic design principles.

The image should not lock to the background if it over powers the site, which is exactly what it does. The red text would be fine on a white or off-white background (solid) but not with an image that has the same shades of color as the text. It makes it very difficult to read. I stand behind Janeth on all her statements.

And there is no need to justify your design. You came to us for feedback. And that is what you will get. If you are fine with the design and plan on defending every aspect of it, then don't ask.

Default Feedback on preeventacne.com

Hello ghstdrgns,
I am looking for feedback and thank you for your comments.I do not really mean to defend the new design of my site but it appears to me to be a vast improvement on what it was before December 2003 when the new pages were uploaded.I do like the design myself but my views are not relevant.I know it is the visitor who decides.Sorry to have stepped on your toes but I did pay someone to design the site not so long ago and I am only human.I will take your comments on board though. Thanks again.

Default my 2 cents

I like the site. Nice background and I like the flower. Colours are nice, but I think you should unbold the red font.

Logo would also be helpful, maybe use the flower design and have one made for you?

I would put your other payment options up beside the paypal logo. Only 5% of our online sales come from paypal. You might want to move this information below the crease and save the area above the crease for selling??

Also there is a product on the main page but I had trouble finding other products ... I had to search. You might want to make it easier to find your products.

Metatags: http://www.searchenginewatch.com/web...le.php/2167931 you could start by reading the article there ... there isa ton of how to's out there about Meta tags you should read, read, read and understand exactly what they are and how to set them up.

Work at making your site easy to find and easy to use and the sales will follow. Make sure you are listed in the dmoz.

HTH

Kim

Default Let's channel your motivation in a better direction.

I have studied your site carefully and here I'm sorry to tell you that your site is poorly build. First, the title on your site is to long and your Meta Tags are not set up. The tables in your Web pages are use incorrectly and the images and fonts properties are not specified properly.

You have taken a big step to build your business on the Net and I support you in doing so. Where you are today is the result of all the choices and actions that you have made. "Nothing happens by accident in the world of computers, the Net, and customer response.

There is always a reason for what happens, good or bad, and that reason is you. It is not by working harder at your business, but by simply channeling your motivation in a better direction.

In order to use the Net to build a client base in a fast, cost-effective way, I recommend that you click this link http://www.learnme2.com/Guide to download the free Service Sellers and the Getting Started Action Guide eBooks for your own references.

Please note, and this is important

You do not need your own merchant accounts to get started and to test the waters -- just send customers to your Order Page that accepts PayPal. The ability to accept credit cards will increase your sales, but PayPal really covers your needs if you sell less than $100,000 per year through your site.

Unless your circumstances are special and these are critical to your business, I recommend that you test your product/service first by taking orders through PayPal on your Order Page(s) only. THEN, once you have fine-tuned and built your business to a successful point, add the ability to accept credit cards with your very own merchant accounts.

A heck of a lot of factors beyond our control can blindside us. In the long run, however, as long as we persist in our efforts, these factors tend to even out.

All the best

Thank you very much for the comments.Sounds like I have a lot of work to do yet.I`ll look up that link Kim,thank you.I think once I have implemented ideas suggested here I should try and get the metatags right.I dont understand what people mean when they say"your Meta Tags are not set up right".Can any one define this term please?
