Default www.southwilts.com

We have created an interesting facility for our local residents here in South Wiltshire. It gives users the chance to create and maintain a website for free - no hosting or domain name charges - and it is all template driven, simply type and go! I'd love to hear what you think about the site (don't be too nasty). We are about to add 3 new templates - document upload page, catalogue page and links page in Feb so it will really whizzz then! Tell me you love it!

Seems like a good idea, is my first thought.

I like the map idea. It was initially frustrating as I tried to mouseover one of the parishes/villages/towns listed on the left when you mouseover a map zone. Then I realised you have to click first. Although it worked, it was just a tiny bit confusing, so maybe have a think about how to simplify it?

I like the green and yellow colours, but when it switched to a pink/rose colour inside that also confused me. I assumed it was somethingg to do with those coloured squares at the top - but that didn't make sense given the topics being displayed. Maybe have a look at that - it may have been just me being dumb :)

Actually, it WAS me being dumb - but it was a bit strange to click on a parish from a yellow zone and end up in a pink one. I can see the logic, but I wasn't expecting it and the colour change was more noticeable than the colour coding clicking in.

I can't see much else wrong. I must admit that I travel to Wiltshire (Porton Down) regularly and I love the whole area :)

Tested in IE6 56k modem 800x600. Slightly slow to load. I also found the mouseover map awkward because I was expecting to be able to click on the links on the left but it just took me to another page. Anyway, a very nice site design. Good luck with it.

I would suggest putting more information on your home page as to what you are about and what viewers can get from your program. My eyes were drawn to the changing pictures in the upper right corner and away from the links on the left. Maybe you could switch these to the left?

Like the map being interactive.
