This site looks like the ones we've had around 15 years ago. Suggestion, look around, browse the web. We're in the next century now.

- Dump background image
- Use CSS
- Be consistent
- Have a theme throughout
- Don't use links inline or the user will click out from you page before finishing reading a sentence

There’s just too much that could be improved.

Hiya,

there are a few good web templates out there free of charge.. you will find a lot of interesting ones to use.. although i think with the templates you need to apply alot of changes to optimise them for search engines ;)

also there are good icons and images to use free of charge which will cheer up your pages :P

good luck and come back for more reviews - we are happy to help.

one of the sites i like is: http://www.freewebtemplates.com/

for CSS tutorials:
http://www.htmlcenter.com
http://www.htmldog.com

with CSS you can add a bit of flavour to your text and make it easier to read - for example Verdana at font size 10 looks really good on the web.

thanks,
T

Looks like the first website I built back in 1998! :) TBH it's hard to say anything good about it as it looks dreadful. I am guessing that this is your first website too so the best thing to say is great try but you now need to step it up a level. Don't be put off by the harsh remarks. This is a forum chock full of pro webmasters and they'll be critical of a site built like this. Seeing as you've posted looking for criticism then take the comments and learn from them.

by the way - always make your pages consistent. Don't centralise the heading.. also all pages should have the same background colour..white is the best one and highly recommended...

Thank you for your opinion. Obviously you can see that I am not a professional web designer.
Having looked into what you have said, I would like to make the following points:
Dump the background image: Do you mean the twain.jpg on my first page? Do you think it would look better with a colour background? I thought it gave the page a warm feeling without making it difficult to read the text.
Use CSS: I didn’t know anything about CSS, so I read about it on the Internet and if I am not mistaken it is a source code like html, but easier to write. If the result is the same, as I already have the html code in place, changing it would seem to be unnecessary hard work.
Be consistent: I think you mean that all my pages should have the same background. My site can be divided into 3 sections: 1- my first page which introduces the site with links. 2- my interactive pages which all have the same style, but the colours differ according to the subject. 3- My football pages which have the same style but the men’s ranking and women’s ranking have a different colour to make it easy for viewers to know what page they are on.
Have theme throughout: I suppose I could have several sites, but that would cost much more and I am not a pro. I want to satisfy a wider audience. This is why I have football, jokes, quotes etc.
Don’t use links inline …: I don’t know exactly what an inline link is. What kind of link should I use and how would it look different?
Hopefully you will comment on the points I have made. Thanks!
