Hi,
I have been picking away at this site for about a year now. I have been continually applying what I have learned along the way from Webproworld and now it's time for the brutally honest truth. Please let me know what you think of www.seascotia.com and how can I improve it? Thanks, |

Well... it looks much better in IE and Firefox than it does in Netscape 7.0, which is an indication that you've got bugs. (The "Nova Scotia Vacation Cottage Rentals" section appears too narrow, and the navigation/google-ads column appears too wide.)
I gave it a quick look, and I don't see what's causing that... but the W3C validator says you've got six code errors on your home page. For some reason it also doesn't like your doctype declaration. (Should it be in uppercase letters?) At the bottom, the row of six links appear in different font sizes depending on what browser I view them in. On Firefox and Netscape, the font size for the "Sean MacLoed Web Design" link appears larger than the font size for "Site Map", but on IE they appear the same size. IMHO, those two links appear too close to the other links in all browsers. I believe I'd promote "Site Map" to appear on the same line as the other six, and then put the web design link centered below them. Next to the Web Design link, I'd probably put a copyright notice. It seems to me the Google ads send visitors to your direct competitors. How can that make sense? Do you have to have the ugly things? Do they have to be so high on the page? |

send2paul,
Thanks for the comments. I am working on a picture that has a little more impact for the opening. As for the news, believe it or not it brings in a few hits every week so it is going to stay for now I think. It is fresh relevant content so it is hard to not use it. ...and yea the boat ad is going with the next round of changes that will include a CSS menu to get rid of the graphics. |

CJacobson,
Thanks for taking the time to have a look. I am not sure what the problem with Netscape 7 is. I just checked it in Netscape 8 and everything looks fine to me. I will have to download 7 and check. For what it’s worth all Netscapes make up less than 1.3% of my traffic. I fixed the W3C validation and everything is fine now. Adsense, well it helps pay the bills what can I say. Maybe I could tone it down a bit. |
