Great job getting your site validated! Its all downhill from here :)

My thoughts on the content are:

1. Are these two separate companies or the same company? If they are separate they need more clear differentiation. Its clear that they are somewhat related since the people have the same name but it would be good to clarify the relationship for those who have no inside information.

2. Why use the business cards? This reduces the search factor for the site, search engines can't read graphics (at least not well). If you are wanting to target customers in a particular geographic location then posting the address of the company is key to help search engines identify the pages location. These graphics also slow the page load time.

3. More content prevalence. I'd like to see some of the articles and information on the front page to draw me in and convince me that these guys know what they're doing. This is much more of a personal thing than anything.

4. I had to do it, this phrase while unavoidable in its truth was way to funny!
Quote:
Goldie, Cox & Associates
anyone see Goldie Locks in there ;)

5. Move the navigation from the bottom of the page to the top, beneath the logo. Most people won't scroll to the bottom of the page looking for it.

6. Consider consolidating your pages a bit. The same information is repeated on the Kevin Cox, Columbia Consulting pages (linked from the business cards) as is on the 'who we are' page. You could use anchors to link this information (<a name="kevin" /> <a href="page.htm#kevin">).

7. Back on the topic of the articles again, use a break out box or a picture or something to break up the page a little bit and draw people in. Pull a significant fact or quote out that makes me want to read the article and highlight it.

Again great job on cleaning up the code and getting it to validate. A few smaller changes in structure and design and you've got a great site!

If you haven't thought about it yet, consider putting a mailing list on the site and implementing a monthly/weekly newsletter for clients and potential clients. This is a great way to build business via the internet and will help build your web site's content too.

Hope this helps,

NV

The lengthy text in your articles is extremely difficult to read from side to side on my 1280 wide screen. Set a width for text areas (550 pixel max?) and break the text up with some images or a column.

I noticed this by accident, but it appears that the letters in the word "financial" are separate images. You really should consolidate things like that. I had the window come up and it wasn't maximized, so it looks like

Cox Financi

al

As far as simple, budget sites go, I like it. It's relatively clean and the information is easy enough to read at 1024x768 (although Marcie probably does have a point about 1280x960). I also like the fact that the navigation was consistent, although I would like to see top-side navigation as well (that way, if someone's looking for something specific, they can find it.)

The site needs some pictures of the people involved, maybe of the building, etc. Consider investing in a digital camera for these.

Finally, for the love of God, get if off of Tripod (unless this is a demo, in which case disregard all these comments). No commercial site should sit on a free host. For the $8.95 a domain costs and the $1 a month hosting this site would cost, your investment will come back tenfold.

Hi Jennifer,

From a visual and newbie standpoint, I really liked your site, however, the one thing I couldn't find was contact info. I feel that contact with the company in every way possible is important (online form, phone, fax etc.).

Hi everyone, and thank you for your comments.

Cathy - The contact inormation is on the first business card.

  • The banner had been split into several smaller pictures at the suggestion of another member. I didn't notice anything different in load times, so I put the whole picture back in.

I have made a change to the articles so that the table they are in has a width of 750 pixels now, which is fully visible with no scroll bars on 800*600, which I think is the "smallest" resolution that anyone is using nowadays. Marcie suggested 550 pixels, but that seemed to be too small in the 1024*768 so I upped it to 750 pixels.

The links are at the bottom because my boss doesn't like how they looked accross the top, she said there was too much white, but I have changed that now to white text on the blue background. I think it looks better that way.

There are going to be pics of all of at the office, we just haven't gotten that done yet. There are also a couple of people that aren't one the "Who We Are" page, namely myself and the new guy. This is going to be remedied soon. Also, you suggested a picture of the office, the picture in the banner is the front of the office. We are located in a Heritage Building in downtown Golden. Anyone who sees that picture, assuming they are from Golden, would know instantly where we are located.

Just so you know, we already have a host for the site, but there is currently a site on it. I don't want to replace that one until I am sure that this one is approved by my boss. Besides that, I don't have the password for it anyways, so the tripod site is just a temporary test site.
