Default Who's afraid of RSI?

I'm starting to get a bad feeling about my hours spent behind the computer. I'm still young but my right hand is beginning to trouble me.

Why aren't I running to the store to buy some new RSI gadget (which one?) and why aren't I using my keyboard more often?

It must be easier than truying to quit smoking.

Greetings

Repetitive Stress Injury.

I'm not afraid of it myself. I tend to vary up my movements while I'm on the keyboard and mouse because of it.

You should spend at LEAST ten minutes away from the pc every hour. Get up, walk around and stretch those muscles ppl :)

The best advice that can be given for that matter!

I didn't even know that existed ... but now i noticed sometimes my hands shake a little tho I'm not sure if that's cause the hours I spend daily on the computer and studying or if that something I always had! Not sure but I'll give this thread a special consideration! Nicely spotted

I'm amazed that some people never heard of RSI. Maybe that it's known by other names in your countries.

As N30 said, leave the computer for ten minutes at the time... I should have to program a black out for that because otherwise I wouldn't be able to walk away from it.

As for you PENAF:
Computer Related Repetitive Strain Injury.
What are the Symptoms?

Tightness, discomfort, stiffness, soreness or burning in the hands, wrists, fingers, forearms, or elbows

Tingling, coldness, or numbness in the hands

Clumsiness or loss of strength and coordination in the hands

Pain that wakes you up at night

Feeling a need to massage your hands, wrists, and arms

Pain in the upper back, shoulders, or neck associated with using the computer.

Now I'm more relaxed almer... didn't experienced most of that symptoms so far!

True I sometimes have tightness and feel discomfort in my hands and sometiomes they shake a bit ... but it's not so serious as you described!

Anyway ... I'll be alerted for that symptoms!

Thanks for the useful info

I'm actualy amazed that there's litle debat on this subject in America. Over here it's becoming a major social-economical problem. 46% of the Dutch workers spent a lot of time behind a computer (making us number 1 in Europe). Especialy young people tend to work overtime behind the computer and suddenly ten percent of these people end up with their docter telling them the're in trouble. 1 in every 100 is out of work for three months or more to try and get back the feeling in their arms.

Are we *****'s or are you looking the other way?
