Hi all!

Jazmo is a community forum dedicated for folk who want to share and discuss their favorite websites.

The idea was born out of my frustration with search engines. With the net full of millions of web sites it takes a lot of trawling through results from google etc before you find a web site that matches your search criteria and has great content.

Those golden nuggets that I was looking for were so hard to find so I thought why not make a home for folks to share their own favorite web sites, by subject category and also create a global community at the same time? And Jazmo was born!

Its my first forum and is probably a little rough around the edges so any tips or advice (especially on how to cerate interest and attract more members) will be greatly appreciated as would any participation in the community!

Thanks

Ripley :)

It is a good idea but the only reason I knew that that's what your website is for is because you said it here. There isn't anything obvious on your start page that says what the site is about. I don't know who your target visitors are but your site looks a bit 'teckie' and may cause people to not stay around for long. Younger people may find it appealing though but to keep them interested you need to make it fun. Have stuff for them to download or games to play etc.

Your logo could do with being redrawn. The orb with the metal rings behind it looks ok but the jazzmo text looks blocky and poor. It looks odd that the two parts are separate also.

I've joined your site and made a post. The sign up process was really quick and easy which was good. Sometimes the navigation around the site got a bit confusing though, too much to click on!

Thanks for the feedback MuNKy and thanks again for contributing!

I kind of agree about the lack of info about the site on the start page but I'm not sure how to handle that problem. Maybe a welcome page with some blurb about what the site is for with a 'click here to enter' button to take you through to the portal page?

You're right, the logo sucks and blows all at the same time :) My design skills are poor at best! I wanted to have a handwriting style of font for the logo and wordart was as good as it gets for me!

Do you (or anyone else) have suggestions on how to make navigation of the site a little less confusing?

I'll pop over to your site and have a quick gander ;)

Cheers!

Logo does not look right. Hard to read.

What kind of site is it?

Had another look at the site. Try and make the horizontal navigation bar more obvious. There are so many different text links on each page, it's hard to see that these are your main links. What about making them image buttons that change when you mouse-over them?

Also the links aren't labeled correctly. Home goes to the forum home and not the start page. Portal should be forum and go to the forum main page. FAQ should be about us as you have no questions and answers in there.

Do you want me to help design you a logo?

I've added a frame to the portal page with some blurb about the site which should hopefully give visitors a flavor of what to expect :)

MuNKY, I'd be honoured if you could help me with the logo!

Your idea about using buttons instead of text for the navbar links makes sense. I've got a design I can use - all I have to do is change the text in the buttons and figure which code I gotta change. That'll keep me busy for the rest of the day....!

Wow you really did add a blurb - might want to change the size of the font!

What programs are you using to make the site for graphics and coding?

I'll try and make something that fits with your site =)

I went a bit overboard on the 'welcome...' font eh? :) I've taken it down two notches.

For graphics work I use Paint Shop Pro ver 9 and can use HTML in the various scripts within VBulletin to place images, frames etc where I want them.

I appreciate your help fella and if theres any help/advice you need on networking (servers, routers etc) let me know ;)

Hows this? Tried to use bits that you had already. I could make you something completely different if you want.

In regard to your networking knowledge, I'm having difficulty networking three XP machines - two home and 1 pro. I've set up a netgear four port router with my BT broadband and that works on all the machines but they can't see each other. Any ideas?
