This is my family website, we use it to make contact with friends and family, and to make new friends. It is meant to be fun and with something for many people. The main draw from people around the world has been my efforts in making an English Pork Pie and also my efforts on the SS Southern Cross which during the last 12 months has been overtaken big time by a Maritime site reporting on the demise of the ship. Prior to that my site was a main link for those interested.

Default Nice

Not a lot of pizzaz, but a very nice, clean, easy to navigate site with some very interesting content. You should be proud.

Default Hall Family Website

The overall layout of your site is easily accessible and should work well for your friends and family. However, I do think that a few small changes in your overall color scheme would tighten your site up immensely. The blues and the grays don't go very well together, at least not here. If I were the one tinkering with it, I'd have to toggle it around until I found the perfect combination. (And, since I tend toward perfectionism, that could take hours.)

To throw out a few ideas that seem like they might look good--though one should always let his own eyes be the final judge--perhaps you could make the light gray section where your text is concentrated white for high contrast readability. Then, perhaps, you could use this very same light gray to replace the dominant dark blue background. Then maybe choose a complimentary color for the light blue title header: I am thinking maybe maroon perhaps? (Think of a gray business suit with a tie that uses complementary colors sparingly.) If your site were all gray, I don't think maroon would look good, but if your main column is white, it might be just the thing. Also, with a maroon header (or other color), you might encode your hyperlinks to match.

Whatever colors you use, I do think that spending more time in their selection would be advisable, though whether my color combination is to your liking (or if it would even look good) is up for grabs. :) In any case, the color factor could revolutionize your site: never underestimate the aesthetics of color. If it were music falling upon the ears, you would want your notes to harmonize; what is true of sound waves is also true of light waves: harmonized colors are like a finely tuned symphony playing in concert.

You have done a nice job on your site. The navigation is very intuitive and is easy to follow. At first I thought your color selections were too dark, but after seeing a coouple of pages I realized that it is actually very nice.

I would like to offer one recommendation. Get your email address of the site and use a Contact Us form. Spam-bots constantly patrol the web looking for email addresses that are gathered and sold to spammers. Contact Us form keeps your email address where they can't get it. FrontPage will let you make a form very quickly.

I loved the web site. The colors were a little dark for me but they made it easy to read and follow. The only thing I really disliked was the fact that it is "wordy". I am lazy and when I visit a web site I just scan for information to see if there is anything of interest. I found it hard to scan this page but that may not matter to you since you designed the page to be visited by friends and family who probably want to know this information. Keep up the good work.
