Default www.your-pet-portraits.com

I would appreciate your expert advice re: my site: www.your-pet-portraits.com
I have submitted it to dmoz once a month since July and even wrote each of the 2 editors for advice with no response. I also volunteered to BE an editor, (they said they didn't need me)but the site has never been listed in dmoz which means not in Google. Last week I sent a data feed to Froogle and so far, have heard nothing (holidays maybe). I know the jpgs take time to load but that is to be expected for a artist's site and the ones that are listed on page 1 of Google take a long time to load also. Thanks for your time!

Stop being so impatient. It's not uncommon for a site to be on queue on dmoz for a 6 months. If you keep submitting your site the editors may get frustrated and just ignore you from then on. dmoz really does need any extra help it can get and if you applied to be an editor and got rejected it's because you did not properly read the guidelines. If they say "your service may not be required at the moment" that's not the actual message the editor sent. They sometimes don't give comments because they get so busy. We'd love to have you apply to dmoz again just read give more time to the application. You may even want to consider going to zeal.com, they have a test to see if your qualified to give such services, then you'll really know why you weren't accepted (you can retake the test as many times as you like). Google takes anywhere from 1 day to a year to grab your url and doesn't get ALL it's results from dmoz. Work on affiliations, it's the best way into googles heart (besides green cash). The dog in your site makes the text a bit bothersome to read. Whoo, talked too much, if you give a long response I might just care to say more.

Thank your for your reply. Actually, I said July, but the first time I submitted it was last March, but I did not get serious about re-submitting it until July, and then I began my "once a month" pestering! They told me the reason for not allowing me to be an editor was because they had enough editors for that topic and that I could choose another topic and try to be an editor for it. I will take your good advice and TRY to be patient. I am just worried there is something technically wrong with my site. I just this month added the dog in the background.

First impression? Good work. Second? Tidy up a bit. The links in the top left tend to stagger back and forth like me on New Year's Eve. The picture of "Gertie" is not centered over your blue field, so it makes the whole site feel rather off-balance. The picture in the background actually works really well...to make your text more readable have the color match the blue color of the text in the "Pet Portraits" graphic. THat should help quite a bit.

I really like the straighforwardness, the layout, the simplicity. It feels professional. Like I said, just tidy up a bit and you'll really start rocking.

Very nice artwork, by the way.

Default Yes

Submit to edit a small category, it's easier to get accepted. They want senior editors editing the big categories.

Thank you so much! I took your great advice and made every single change! It is hard to see these needed changes when you are the one who created the site.
