Default Can I maintain my own site? www.Basketsgiftsandbeyond.com

Hi Guys

I seem to be having a problem getting my web designer to update my site promptly for me. Looking at the site, do you think it would be very difficult to maintain my own site? I know a fair bit about photoshop. I need to be able to update it every week and would like to be able to grow the site with different features, for example an opt in newsletter etc. www.Basketsgiftsandbeyond.com
Thanks

Default Hmm..

Well he did a wonderful job on the layout. Ask him to enable some php features so you can update the text in the page yourself. Since you'd be the only one using it he could enable it with html. In the pages you want to make easily updatable set them to php and have it grab what you edited from the database or from a include("edited.php"); page. For muscledemon.com he just has to edit the text in a control panel I made for him and it automatically changes the page content. He does the same thing for the news letter. Just writes his message to the newsletter subscribers and clicks send. Those are just basic php possibilities.

Very nice looking site.

The question would depend on how much you know and what all changes your wanting to make.

Default web designer relationship

Hi Karen,

First, do you have a relationship/contract with the
web designer to maintain your site? If you do not,
you might explore that option first. Craft a contract
that has terms... like how fast updates are to be
completed, who provides what information to who,
and of course pricing.

Looking at your site and others the web designer has
done, it would appear that they know what they are
doing.

As far as updating it yourself. Yes, it can be done.
The question is: what is the best use of your time?
Working on your website or running your business? I
always think it's a great idea for the business owner
to know what's going on in their site... but maybe not
for them to be "hands on".

For you to add features, is another "level" of learning
too.

I doubt that he is going to be able to enable php since he is using asp to run the site. But, yes, that would of been a better way to go(either with asp or php). I always suggest that this type of site needs to includes features to allow the owner to update items/info. At least be able to update prices an availability. If you do get ahold of him, I would suggest asking him to include something like this. Even if you have this type of capability, it is still nice to be able to make small changes to your site using HTML.
As far as you editing the site, it just depends on if you have the time to learn HTML, ASP and some JavaScript. Photoshop will help with the images, but thats it.

Can anyone else suggest any good online tutorials for learning HTML?

Thanks for your feedback. I am able to update prices and products myself, I just wanted to be able to import different pictures on my main page for different occasions like valentines day and mothers day.
