Default iHomeConnect.com - Loading Time...

I have run www.iHomeConnect.com through several tests... I also reduced the size of my images by half. However,

http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/

keeps giving me the same info.

If you could please visit my site and record the # of secs it took you to see the entire page, and then repost them here with your connection speed, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!
Tim

Default 8 & 12 seconds

8 seconds over my cable modem. 12 over a T-1. Most of the time was spent waiting for something to show up. Once it started showing up, it didn't take too long.

Did the slowness piss you off?

also, why would it be 4 secs slower on a T-1 than cable? I thought T1s were faster...or maybe it's T-3s... also, is there anything you would suggest that would make my pages load faster?

thanks,
Tim

sorry... forgot to also ask if browsing the rest of the site went faster (maybe it was cached)? btw, how many people do you think have their cache settings on?

Default Cable vs. T-1.

T-1 is only 1.5 Mb/s. My cable modem is 10 Mb/s max (I usually see around 5Mb/s). If I had X-Windows on any of our Linux servers, I'd test it over a T-3.

8 seconds doesn't upset me at all, but over a modem it could annoy me (realizing how much slower it would be.)

I have no clue how many people have the cache turned on. None of our web stats show that.

The rest of the site was fairly similar. Most of the time seems to be waiting on your web server to respond to the first request.

Brian.

Mine hadn't even resolved DNS in 2 seconds... let alone having the whole page loaded. I'll have to try it from a PC and not this laptop.

Hmmm I would have thought that with what equipment you have it might have done the same as what I have. Hard to say what others will get. Wonder what dial up would be?

wow...cool! Thanks! I knew that that optimizer site would be off... i think what these sites really try to do is make u think that your site worse than it is and then try to sell u their services... IMHO...

Site loaded quickly for me over a cable line. I wouldn't worry too much. The site looks great though!

Default Ok...

2 and 3 seconds (cable and T-1) with a regular PC. My laptop is just slow.

I appreciate all your feedback! i'm still curious tho as to 56k... maybe I shouldn't worry so much about those users?

about 8 secs over a 1 mb cable connection, the first time. Once the page started to show smething it was very fast, just had to wait with a blank screen for a while, then within two secs.

After the intial load the home page and the other pages load in about 2 secs.

The truck rentals page also took over a little over 2 secs to load, but not too bad over the cable connection.

Celeron 1400, 768MB RAM. Not too bad for a laptop. Most of the problem is the 4200 RPM drive that laptops still use. I'm going to upgrade that soon. Very annoying.

Explains why this laptop is also slow. I have a hard enough time typing things on it let alone going from one site to another. Cann't wait for my table top to get back. Try AMD Athlon XP 2200 448 of ram

My main PC is a simple Athlon XP 1800+ with 2 GB of RAM, 3 LCD monitors, and an 80 GB drive plus 2 120 GB drives. Not enough drive space.

My main home PC is a P4 3000 with 1.5 GB RAM, a couple monitors, and 4 10,000 RPM SCSI drives in RAID 5. Drive access is no problem on that machine. ;-)

But weren't we talking about access times? I tried the site again and get 2 seconds on each of my machines except for the laptop, which is still about 7 - 8. I don't even know anyone now with dial-up to test that.

Anyone else have dial-up to test the site for supernatural_247?

Brian.

Well the laptop I am using now took 3 secs to load. Seems from all the post about load time that it loads pretty fast with the exception of a dial up. Once you know this it should help you more.

also, I was in Mexico for the last 2 weeks and was only able to check my email 2xs... anyways, the connection was a phone line (56k) and it took about 32 seconds... once loaded, the rest of the pages went much quicker... *sigh*... guess slower users will just have to wait... my loading time on Alexa is average - 1.6 seconds... so the majority of my users must be broadband.

thnx for ur feedback, guys - I really appreciate it!!!

you might want to get rid of those fake testimonials... and should those people ever find their likeness on your site, you may get sued... nice looking site, tho.

hit me up again once you've finished the site and have an Alexa ranking of 500,000 or lower.

cheers,
tim

I didn't time it but it didn't take too long. It was about 2-4 secs. 512k broadband connection.

I would recommend you test any site with 56K dial up prior to going live so you can iron out any problems. A lot of surfers still use it especially in the UK, only about half use broadband as at May this year although I know as soon as BT get their act together we will all get faster connections.

Actually, the site was slow to fully load on my 3mb cable connection.

The total page size = 161.83 Kb. The .js files you have on there are pretty big - 48.60 Kb for overlib.js file and 23.15 Kb for the menu9_com.js file. That might be contributing to the slow load time.
