Default dan.lefree.name

Looking for feedback on the layout, functionality, and content of my webpage... Does the copy sell? How does it look on a Mac? What works, what doesn't?

Any comments appreciated - will reciprocate reviews if you include a link.

resume page did not come up right away.

This stuff does not look very good in your logo area.
Web Development
Web Design
Contract Projects
Database Applications
e-Commerce Storefronts
Custom Realtor Websites
Artist Portfolio Sites
PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS

Where to put it I don't know.

Other than this it looks very professional.

Personally, I'm not feeling this at all. It's too busy.

For example, under Web Design and Web Development Specialties, you've got three columns, bold text, regular text, hyperlinks, a cell with a different-coloured background and all of that in such a tiny area.

Space is your friend. Use your friend.

Like a lot of designers/developers, you list that you know PHP/MySQL. Who cares about that information? Other designers and developers. Who doesn't care about that information? 95% of your customers. Basically, what your customers are going to care about is the end result, not what it took to get there.

Mind you, if you're trying to land work in a design firm, then that's stuff you should put in. But if you're going for true independence, lose that information (or bury it somewhere deeper in your site.)

I got confused by the underlines under the plain text at the top right of your page. I thought they were hyperlinks at first. You probably should look at something different to bring those sections out...or just remove that whole portion entirely, since most of it, as mentioned before, doesn't apply.

It looks like you're trying to serve a dual purpose. On the one hand, you want to try and get customers. On the other, it looks like you want a job. Pick one path or the other and write your copy accordingly. You're not going to have this one both ways. It just doesn't work. If I were you, I'd go for customers. Customers = more security than a job nowadays anyway.

Also, you really should look at putting some colours into this site. That grey is really dull. The colour scheme from that UW rental site is really nice. Borrow from that.

Anyway, those are my "really tired and should be in bed" thoughts.

Thanks - I've done a lot of experimenting with the spacing of text and elements within the content portion of the page - I'll take a look at giving the elements more room (and getting rid of that somewhat anomalous box you mentioned).

Ironically enough, I have been attempting to work both angles (and not just on my website). I agree that customers are probably a more reliable resource and, with that in mind, I think I'll move that resume a little deeper into the site.

Default nice site

Nice site Dan...

I have to disagree with Adam here (he apparently doesn't like grey) I belive that the gray with the background looks very professional. Too many colors and it's hard to tell if your running a kindercare center or if your serious about your business. IMHO
Your client testimonials are excellent...And now that I know you do database work I may have a job for you that I can't do, for a lady in LaConner (right up the road from you)*if you would like to review my newest site you can click on the slogan in my signature...

It's not that I dislike grey per se. I just don't like it as a major part of the colour scheme of a website. It's not so bad when it's muted (like the WPW grey), but when it's mid-to-dark grey, it just looks bad to me and always has.
