| Submit Your Site For Review Need a fresh set of eyeballs to take a look at your site? Have a specific issue or question about some aspect of your layout, design or interface? This is the forum for you. When submitting your site, be sure to discuss what aspect you are looking for input on. Just posting a link with the word 'review' isn't appropriate. |

Hi, I am new to “webproworld” so don’t go easy on me, I wanted to know what you guys think about my site “www.visualcompro.com”, I know it's a bit conservative but I did not think a site should be flashy just because you are a designer unless you are not actually showing much of you work (a site for the sake of a site if you know what I mean).
I live and work on a Caribbean island (not as much fun as you would imagine), so out here in the sticks I am working in a vacuum not a heck of a lot to stimulate a creative mind just a few know-it-alls who is full of bull. Thanks for your time. |

Thanks Pagetta, I really appreciate your comments it seems I have a few things to fix, for instance all the pages are supposed to be centered and pre-viewed fine on the browsers I tested them on, I had no idea they were jumping around, maybe someone can tell me why?
CCS! well, I am a mean old dog when it comes to design (milk cartons to houses) but I am just a pup with the mechanics of web design. I guess I am going to need some help. Of course I use a Macintosh for all my work. Peace, Kish. |

Is that all you have on your main page? Not much. Where is your logo if you have one. Should be on all of your pages so a person knows what site they are on.

Miguel, your comments reflect exactly what I was trying to achieve when I decided to put the site online, it was not an attempt to show off a “site”, just an attempt to show my work.
But obviously there are quite a few bits and pieces I need to do to improve the site, that’s why I value all of the comments I am receiving from you guys so much. Great!!! |

Hi webhost1, although I design logos for most of my clients I don’t use one myself, just plain type on the site (though this is not my logo type).
The main page is just a static intro/welcome page really; maybe there should not be links back to it from the other pages. You are absolutely right, there should be site i.d. on all the pages, just another thing I missed. Thanks!!! |

You might want to consider putting something about what you do on the main page. Just looking at the main page you don't get of who you are or what you do so why would someone want to look at the rest of your site?

webhost1, you are right about the main page, there should be a reason for it. I am thinking of including an animated flash slide show in the rectangle that presently holds the art image, with each slide depicting another aspect of the services I offer.
You guys are really good. Kish. |

If your going to use flash make sure it is short and sweet and to the point. I for one do not care for flash. Maybe have the user control it with an on/off switch.

It is going to be intersting in seeing what you come up with. Let us know when you get it done.

Hi kish, good to see you getting some constructive criticism from other members. I'm moving this thread into "Site Review" - you never know there maybe further comments still to come! :o)
Best of luck with the site! Paul |

Thanks Paul, you guys have been of immense help so far, pointing out a lot of stuff I was unaware off.
I guess designing a website is much like living on a small island, so much to get into such a small area, “you can’t see the palm trees for the coco-nuts”. Kish. |

Your opening page (index.html) is essentially a splash page and serves little or no purpose. You are not informing either site visitors or search engines here. You have masses or text in your meta tags, but nothing where Google looks - on the page.
You have lot of complictaed JS in there simply to change the color of the scroll bar. This can be done with much less bother in CSS. However. I don't think I want my scroll bar messing with! And with such short pages the vertical scroll bar doesn't appear for me any anyway - just 2 green blobs top and bottom (IE). The 'About' page jumps left. The green page background does not make the text in bold easy to read. Your portfolio is much more impressive than your website - so you can do it. A designer's site may not actually pull in much business directly, but can be used by potential clients to assess your capabilites. Sorry to say this is drab and lacks pazzaz and sparkle. You say your company is "a very unique company" (not sure that you can have a comparative with 'unique' it's black and white - either unique (the only one in the world) or not). But this website doesn't reflect your uniqueness. You are right about it being conservative. IMHO it's too conservative...

Hi Paul B, you have given me a lot to think about, as I have said before I initially thought that showing my portfolio was more important than showing off a “site” but as your valid comments suggest it is obvious I need to change my thinking.
As the site is the vehicle used to showcase my portfolio and services it should be reflective of my capabilities, that is the point you have sent home to me. Thank you. Kish. |
