It's a nice idea, spoilt for me by red Comic Sans and that snowfall background - but I know you told me 'kids, moms and teachers love it.'

Clicking the XHTML W3C logo reveals 47 errors...

Default thanks for reminding me

I've been meaning to go through the site and fix those errors.
I put the w3c logo in the auto-footer - then went and did a bunch of change-all's to the code. Mistake. So at least now I know what I'll be doing all weekend :-)

Not only that, but if you look, 90% of the errors come from advertising links provided by my affiliation program. Seems they all do that.

I am so darned tired of advertisers who write bad code! I've been really trying to get my pages up to snuff with standards only to have all my efforts ruined by affiliate code.

Anyone else running into that problem? What do you do?

What kind of errors are you getting in their code? I run affiliates on my site but have not as far as I know run into any errors from them.

I do go over all their code when I put them up and try them right away before I put the file on the site.

Default code errors

I am a member of WebRing and had to change their computer generated code in order to comply with W3C XHTML standards http://g.webring.com/hub?ring=snowflakesaround

I recently just dropped several rings because I was tired of the errors.

Mostly with the affiliates is the issue with using the & symbol in their code. Now, they stress that the code must not ever be altered...

so they give code like this:
<a href="http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=DLEri5iH5v4&offerid=10012.10000254&type=4 &subid=5">

Which XHTML validator bombs out on saying that all "&" code must be coded &amp;

Which places me in the situation to honor the NEVER ALTER CODE rule or go for the validation and possibly lose the sale or credit for the click through.

Hi snowflakegirl,

How much traffic do you get from the webrings?

By the way, I like the little snowman.

I read on the net that when you validate your code you should never do it with affiliate code in it. Once your code gets validated you can put that code back and things should be ok after that.

Your right in that they do put code in that does not make sense to the validators.

Webrings are the same as affailte programs in the sense of the code. The same goes true with these when you validate your code.

Is your code always validated? Does XHTML go to your site and read you code all of the time or do you have to do this yourself?

snowflakegirl

that page tends to be a little herky jerky when I try to scroll down the page. Don't know if the problem is on my end or not. The page just does not scroll very smoothly. Anybody else having this problem with this page?

heritagetrails, Thanks for the compliment!

Janeth, I get a lot of traffic from the WebRing. Every time I join a few new groups on the ring my Google clicks jump up a bit :-)

The rings I manage are listed at the bottom of the home pages of these sites:
http://www.paperchrismons.com
http://www.paperalentines.com
http://www.papersnowflakes.com
http://www.patrioflakes.com
http://www.scissorcraft.com

I'm liberal with the sites I accept in my rings but won't take sites with annoying popups or sites with no meaningful content.(like link farms etc...)

Webhost1, I've tried putting the error-ridden code back after validating, but that defeats the purpose, I think. I mean, if it's important enough to want the W3C gold emblem to display as proof, someone will inevitably push that little gold button and the page will not validate so what have you gained by fudging?

At least the Google ads always work! :-)

I'll check the page, maybe the preloading is messing up. That's all I can think of that could be causing any jerkiness..

I read on one of those validtor services and this is what they said. Which one I don't know. The bottom line is you know what is best for your site and that is what you should do. I for one have tried those validtor places but got the same result as you did and did not put there graphic on my site cause of it.

I wonder why other affialte programs do not use the type of google code does. If they can get it to work why cann't the others.

Thanks for checking this out. You seem to come up with very good pages for the do this or that thing. Nice job.

I'd rather have the code that passes than carry an advertisment that makes a visitor's browser crash or act up. So far the ad code I've altered by changing the & symbol to &amp; has worked OK. I still receive those little commission checks anyway.

As far as why other's don't use code like Google Ads I'll bet that Google keeps their Adsnse code very top secret.

Changing the code from ? to ?amp;

Never thought of doing that. What program lets you do that?

Is your page all set? Did you fix the error you found?

I am not sure what you are referring to.
The XHTML W3C validators say that in all instances the & symbol must be changed to &amp;

That's all I was referring to

I was asking 2 things here. As you can tell I am not a very good typist when it comes to typing. Any ways what affailate program will let you do this?

It's not that they have allowed me to do it, I just did the code changes and they haven't said anything. Plus the changes seem to be working OK with the ads as I still receive my tiny commission checks fairly regularly.

Is something wrong with your site? I tried to get on it and was slower scrolling than what was before. It has been like this all day for me whenever I have gotten on your site today. Might be on my end. Don't know. Just thought I would ask.

I got get some slowness on some of your pages. Not all. Maybe has to do with some of the scripts you have running on those pages. The pages come up fine. It is just when I scroll down to the bottom of the page does this happen.

Your latest snowman page really slows down in loading the page and scrolling down the page. I guess it is just me.
