Default Capitol Inn Hotel

Hi All,

Here is another one we launched just days ago. I'm sure it needs some polish, can you tell us where?

Thanx in advance.

Hi
Nice site - really nice colours and the navigation is simple and effective. It has a homely but preffessional feel which is perfect for a hotel site.

I must admit I'm not a big fan of the textured backgrounds - they look a little dated to me, but that is a personal opinion. I do like the logo faded on the background though - v subtle but really makes the page looks nie.

Also, I am a big stickler for consistency in design, as I think it gives a website a very polished feel. You use arial throughout the content but a serif font for all the text at the top. It does actually to fit for the main menu, and the page headings, but the sub menus just jar a little - maybe they need a full 1px border around them? I'm not sure what it is, they just don't seem to fit in with the rest of the site.

I would put the date in white or the dark pink, and in arial.

A lot of text - it looks a bit squashed - maybe and extra pixel or two line-height?

the overall look is great though and really nice header - the flash is subtle and not distracting - good balance in the page and nice to use!

Hi,

Thanx for the great comments. I'm going to make a couple of small changes to the text items mentioned and I'll check back shortly.

About the texured bg:

We too avoid them typicly (texured is soo done already and hard on the eyes) but, this clients building and printed marketing and guest materials all have a similar texture so to cary that theme we used it in one of our initial mockups, and they liked it, so it stayed LOL!

BTW this was a redesign, I'll post a link to some screen shots we took of the original site a little later.

Thanx again

Hi,

I changed the date style, size and color.

Adding 1 pixel to the p line height, it is helping alot.

the sub nav has been an issue for us on and off through out this project. the client likes it, but we see what you mean, everything looks so great and the drop down is so, so...plain for lack of better terms. We went with the blending bg for normal state because other colors looked like we chunked up a block of something or other just sticking out there (this is a head scratcher). And an issue to kick around tomorrow morning.

Content is supposed to be in verdana, though arial is the third back up font. Title and such are Times with sans-serif as a third back up.

Here is a link so you can see what they had to start with http://www.capitolinnhotel.com/redesign.html All content copy from the original site didn't fill a page in word at 12pt in verdana.

Thanx

wow - that's a great overhaul - does look really good. The 1px line height difference has made the text look a lot more readable . Its a really nice site!
