Default www.placeinthecanaries.co.uk

http://www.placeinthecanaries.co.uk has been running for about 6 months.

So far the site has not reached any high positions in the Google SERPs despite having a PageRank 4 and featuring in the Yahoo and MSN SERPs for pharses such as Canary Islands Property and Lanzarote Property.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone with SEO tips to improve this.

Thanks in advance,
Kev

Default Content shows the way

Hi,

Just a couple of of quick comments:

1. place more content on the front page
2. Work your key words into the content, keywords, disc. and page titles more effectively.
3. Make your links look like links. Bold black inline text is not commonly know as a link. Creative, ehh. Confusing to a new visitor, very likely.
4. Use keywords in your links.
5. Use several words in a link. Not stuffing, but using natural language.

example: many of you page titles are: "Place in the Canaries…" try loosing Place and modify Canaries and try adding Islands so it reads "Vacation in the Canaries Islands". The word Place has nothing to do with vacationing in the Islands.

The bottom line is content content and more content that is key word rich and reenforces your message in the titles of the pages.

There are several different components that have to work together, reenforce and compliment each other all at the same time.

just MTCW.

Thanks a lot for the tips, I've tried changing a couple of things so hopefully this will help.

Cheers,

I didn't like the black text for links either...

I think your site's theme calls for more ambitious graphic design. The four small rectangular photos in a row on the main page are the focal point, and they just don't look stylish enough. Perhaps you might consider a layout that looks more like postcards or vacation photos (with a border or drop-shadow effect...)

Consider having one larger glamour-shot with a properly descriptive title that really sells the Canary Islands overall. Are they primarily a party place for young "clubbers"? (That's a peculiar new word I learned on your site.) Or are they a quiet get-away for families? Do you want to emphasize their affordability or their exclusiveness. Identify your core customer demographic and try to appeal to them specifically.

Then, sell YOUR COMPANY too by stating what you consider your particular special expertise (whatever that is) - not just "we are currently offering" this and that.

I think "properties" and "holidays" probably call for two different websites (possibly with links between them...)

It's just a styling personal-preference thing, but I didn't care for captions centered OVER the photos.

Thanks again for the tips, I am more worried about getting the seo side of things right first so have left the design pretty much the same.

I have made a few changes to try and optimise the site to find the keywords 'Canary Islands Property'. Would it be worth removing the live property feed to try and improve search results? Plus it seems to be slowing the site down.
