Default New Site - First Public Posting

Hello,

http://www.SuperRedBear.com/

Perhaps you could take a look at my site...it's brand new.....I consider it a new twist on the idea of a "software/freeware/shareware" site....a few people who have given me feedback like it as a "resource" site...I refer back to it myself for various resource items...then again maybe my memory isn't so good....

I'm particularly new with alot of this and frankly have no idea how to market this site...what to do with keywords, etc. etc.

There's still alot of content to be added as well, but it's getting there....

Best,
SRB Observer

First, I would make the site fit within a 800 x 600 window. Also, the flash animation of the bear is large, and does it serve a purpose? Perhaps try cutting out some the starry area - it takes up lots of room, and well, looks empty! Or, if you keep the starry area, I'd add some text messages about your site. Good luck!

It's a very good point. I wrestled alot with that. In fact here's two alternate home pages that I came up with to more optimize for 1024x768 and 800x600.

http://www.superredbear.com/indexhpf.html

http://www.superredbear.com/index2.html

In the end the initial concept at 1280 x 1024 won out...though I might change it. There are some features for 800x600...like on the content pages click the red gizmo at the top and it jumps out of frames and nicely into 800x600......But I hear what you're saying...as I said I really wrestled with that but couldn't get a look I liked at that low of a resolution.

The Super Red Bear Animation is there to be memorable....people seem to like the pictures of him.
Especially this one http://www.superredbear.com/photosawbear.html

You can also click on him to go to Google in the flash animation.

I may look at some text in that area...also at one point the flash was centered....

Thanks for your comments, helps to get a fresh look at it.

Site does not fit my screen.

Listed below does not look good where you have it. You have all of this empty space.

You might want to have the page fit to whatever screen it shows on.

Thanks,

I'm curious what screen size and resolution you have?......How does a stand-alone page like this look for you?

Or this as a stand-alone?

I have a 17 inch screen. I think it has to do with what resolution you have your screen set for. I think I have mine set pretty high. That one area I said on your main page really looks like a lot of dead space. With what you have I should not have to slide over to finish seeing the rest of your page.

All this info is what I am talking about.

Thanks for the data webhost1....

The site looks as intended at 1280 x 1024......I have it on a 19 inch screen....I know it really changes the perspective on it at lower resolutions......

I wanted to have the whole site adjust for different resolutions using a table set to a percentage...but just doesn't work with the side by side boxes....

Maybe this is just a dumb question but is there any other technique anyone knows about to simply have a site resize itself and still keep the same proportions.....

Best, matt

What I have found for my site is. I have to keep the left side at a set range and can have the middle move in and out as it goes from one screen to another. This can be done with 2 column or 3 columns. Don't know if there is a 4 column page.

You can do it with your main page. Just keep the left side at what set range you have it now and make the middle have the ability move with the screen size.

I am sure that others would be able to tell you about differnt code than I can.

Do you have your tables in one table? A table inside a table, inside a table. Hope this is right.

Hi Webhost1,

The way it's set up for the index page is one large layout box...(using Namo)...with layout cells inside...

In other words each of the 4 mini-pages is a cell, so is the black area, each of the vertical columns is a cell, etc......these can be converted to tables..they're just easier to lay out in the box format...

When converting to the tables, however, and trying to use an adjustable size(percentage)...well, for lack of a better way to put it, everything just goes to hell...the cells adjust to slightly different sizes....just a royal mess...

I'm embarrassed to say how much time I spent trying to get those cells to sort out exactly the way I wanted...trying different layouts, etc. It's the side-by-side nature of the cells inside a single box which gives the trouble. Eventually I knew I'd need to appeal to a higher power...like people on a forum.....

Thanks for looking at my site....

Any suggestions are welcomed...

Best, SRB Observer

Any way of putting these just below the 4 boxed areas?

This to me looks better than having them lineup the way you have it. Just a thought
