Hello again. I am resubmitting my site for a review. I did not receive any when I submitted it the first time. I hope that this does not mean that it was not good! PLEASE give me some feedback. This is my first site. I hope to make it as good as possible.

Hi Lisa,

I checked out your site. It loaded very fast with a DSL connection. It looked nice at 800 x 600 and at 1024 x 768.

Your pages are all a nice length. The pictures of your jewlrey are all nice and clear and make it very easy to see each piece.

I really like the way that your front page is laid out. The only thing that seemed out of place to me was the **New items have been added!** and the "100% Satisfaction Guarantee." This is just my opinion but that might look better if it was the same size as the other fonts. maybe just in bold like you have the "FREE shipping on all orders placed during December! Anywhere in the U.S."

Overall a very nice site.

Have a great day!

I agree with you 100%. Something about those big SALE banners always bugged me. I will change them to smaller font.

I appreciate your input.

Oops! I see that I posted a new topic instead of posting to this thread. Now just need to figure out how to get rid of the new post.

I also like your index page and overall layout. It's clean and fast-loading. There's one large image right up front that grabs the attention of visitors and let's 'em see right off the top what you're selling. Very nice!

You've got a layout problem with one of your necklace pages (http://www.lantanadesignwear.com/gemstone_necklaces.htm). It's not showing up in columns like the rest of your pages (at least not in Mozilla). It makes it seem as though there's nothing else to follow, even though I know I was only on page 2 out of 3. For consistency's sake, it'd be nice if it was in columns, too.

Also, on several pages your jewelry images show up immediately below your logo and "FREE Shipping" text. But on other pages, it drops down quite a bit (several lines, in fact). I'm sure you probably intend for the images to end up in the same place on each page -- as close to the top as possible. ;)

I would also suggest a bit more contrast in your link colors. It's a bit hard to tell which links are visited and which refer to the current page I'm on. For older visitors (especially men buying gifts for their wives) this could be a big problem and cause them a great deal of confusion.

Great job overall!

P.S. Hope you don't mind that I merged your "Thanks" with the rest of your topic. ;) - Syren

I'll look at the gemstone page to see what the problem is. I thought that they were all in columns.

Links--I would love some suggestions for link colors. Dont know why this has bothered me. I want it to coordinate with my site and not clash. This is hard for me to do.

Each image is supposed to be uniform across all pages. I will find out why some have extra spaces and correct the problem.

Thank you so much for your help. And thanks for putting my reply where it should be!

Try the Online Color Schemer. It's an easy way to pick colors for your website that look great together!

The extra spaces and column problems are because I'm using a different browser, rather than IE. There are often problems in the way a website appears from one browser to another, especially when using style sheets or codes that are browser-specific.

The only way to correct such problems is to view your website in more than just IE and make whatever adjustments are needed.

Fortunately, browsers like Netscape, Mozilla and Opera (for example) are freely available for anyone to download. :)

Good luck with your changes!

Default Background

Is the background supposed to be white? Grey is my desktop background color, and it's the color of your site's background on my computer.

Default Background is white

I dont know much about web sites, so dont know why your background is grey. It is supposed to be white. Actually dont know why my page is not showing up in column either. I hope that it shows up correctly on other computers. If not, I do not know how to correct the problem.

Since your layout is done in tables, for this page - http://www.lantanadesignwear.com/gemstone_necklaces.htm - you need to keep both items in the same table row (<tr>).

You started a new row before adding the second item on the page, so it falls below the previous item, rather than next to it.

In other words, right now you have this:
Code:
<tr>
      <td width="187" valign="top">

N011 - Amethyst &amp; Aventurine Gemstone Chip Necklace

Amethyst &amp; Aventurine (also known as
      green quartz) is a perfect match of balance &amp; harmony. Pair with
      matching earrings and bracelet and be prepared to take on the world!
      Sterling silver clasp, Aventurine &amp; Amethyst Gemstone chips. 19-21&quot;

$45.00

       <font size="2">SOLD</font></p>
      <form>.....</form>
</tr>
      <td width="188" valign="top" height="40">
      </td>
      <td width="188" valign="top" height="40">
      N024 - Carnelian Chip Necklace

Carnelian chips are adorned with
      Bali beads to make a gorgeous necklace.</p>

17&quot;</p>

$39.00

      SOLD
      <form>.....</form>
</td>
    </tr>
When what you really need to fix your layout is this:

<tr>
<td width="187" valign="top">

N011 - Amethyst &amp; Aventurine Gemstone Chip Necklace

Amethyst &amp; Aventurine (also known as
green quartz) is a perfect match of balance &amp; harmony. Pair with
matching earrings and bracelet and be prepared to take on the world!
Sterling silver clasp, Aventurine &amp; Amethyst Gemstone chips. 19-21&quot;

$45.00

<font size="2">SOLD</font>
</p>
<form>.....</form>
<td width="188" valign="top" height="40">
</td>
<td width="188" valign="top" height="40">
N024 - Carnelian Chip Necklace

Carnelian chips are adorned with
Bali beads to make a gorgeous necklace.</p>

17&quot;</p>

$39.00

SOLD
<form>.....</form>
</td>
</tr>[/code]

I left out the detail on your forms, but you get the basic idea.

I haven't checked your other pages, but I'm guessing you'll find the same problem on each page.

HTH! :)

Wow! Thank you so much for taking the time to spell it out to me. I really appreciate it. I will print out the information and go in and correct the pages. I know my html code is a mess. I really need to clean that up.

Consider it an early Christmas present. ;)

It's really easy to get confused and lost when working with tables. Tabbing and indenting can be a big help in keeping rows and columns straight.

Good luck, and Merry Christmas! ;)
