Some cool looking medals there. However, a review:
First my favourite 2... 1. Why have a font page that just tells you to enter? They were a favourite years ago until most realized that people with slow connections hate them, and most of world is on slow connections. When I used to be on a slow connection I used to leave the site straight away. When you go looking for information, the last thing you want to do when you have a slow connection, is to wait all over again for the next page to load. You are also limiting yourself in searchability for search engines, because all you have is an image on the front page, no meta tags, no text containing keywords, and no 'alt' & 'title' tags. You have one word a search engine would spider...and thats 'enter' 2. You have no background colour set for first page. Not everyone has white as a default background color. and... 3. Your second page should be your first page. Yiou can always add that front page graphic there. 4. Your image links have title='Click for Details', to better optimize the page for searches, put a description there. The same with you image links on all the pages. But, otherwise a nice clean site. :-) Cindy

Matauri,
Thanks for your feedback. The first and second page I agree 100% but the customer is never wrong. As for the indexing with search engines, I can cut and paste a item name into google, and the site gets good ranking. Im not too sure what you man about the background color being white? will/does this present a problem? Did you want to check out the other site as well? www.ediamonds.ca Roy |

I took a minute to visit both sites.
Matauri makes some good points. The background color can have an impact! If someone has their background color set to black and you have no color set, then all your black text will disappear. Not that this happens a lot since most people leave the default setting in place. As for the entry page, I have used several myself successfully (I think), one for a client that insisted and one to help communicate the message. It can be done. I would recommend that you try a more artful approach rather than two rows of large images. Use your artistic side here and try to tell a story with the images and maybe so text. The then carry that story into the rather bland interior of the site to create a theme.

In regards to searchability:
Further into your site you have title tags for the medals, and yes, even if somewhat further back in Google search listings, one of those pages come up. Yet...if you had a better title tag closer to your index page, it is going to increase your position. And..thats just Google, which isn't the be all & end all in search engines. You have no other frames of reference for other search engines that use meta tags until a lot further into your site. In regards to background colour: A lot of computer users dont have white as default, most will have a variation of offwhite backgrounds to reduce glare (not necessarily black all the time), then when you put white background images on it (as in your title) they look like white blocks placed ont he page. Putting a background colour isnt such a big deal when it means that everyone will see page as it is intended to look. The opening page issue: Sometimes you have to work with clients & point out things that will benefit them. :-) Cindy
