| Submit Your Site For Review Need a fresh set of eyeballs to take a look at your site? Have a specific issue or question about some aspect of your layout, design or interface? This is the forum for you. When submitting your site, be sure to discuss what aspect you are looking for input on. Just posting a link with the word 'review' isn't appropriate. |

I wanted to get a review of my site from others because I have been receiving mixed feelings from a few people after launching my new design last week. Some are saying they think it's "too simple", but I don't know what I can do to make it more complex whist keeping the usability to maximum. Also just wanted to get feedback from a broader range of users, as most people who come to the site are specific to it. Bear in mind I'm not a designer, but I do do SEO and also try to keep a good relationship between usability and search engine friendliness. The new layout is also CSS based (bar the few tables which I am slowly weeding out). Also bear in mind that my site isn't instinctively for commercial purposes or e-commerce or anything like that, but it is widely used and recognised in the field. I hope to expand into e-commerce at some point though, which is one of the reasons for getting a review. Any feedback is appreciated. |

Pete,
You can tell a lot of work has gone into the site. I have no idea what you're talking about, but am probably just showing my age! In terms of making the site less simple -- I'd center the site so there isn't such a large area of white on the right hand side. The header graphic is well done, but maybe the gray and light blue is a bit washed out. I'd experiment with some different colors, leaving the layout as it is (except centered). A stronger blue? And, if there is another signature color, blend that with the gray to get a different shade. Here are some great sites for playing with color. The first one lets you choose two colors and come up with up to 10 levels of blending. It makes it a lot easier to develop colors that go together. http://meyerweb.com/eric/tools/color-blend/ http://www.colorschemer.com/online.html http://wellstyled.com/tools/colorscheme2/index-en.html Hope this helps. Kathleen

Thanks Kathleen.
Some of the stuff I tried this time around is new to me, so I wanted to make a bit of a change. My last 4 layouts have been centered and it just seemed like there was something missing, also, without a border it can look a bit odd to center the current one. I'll have a go at testing some things later though. Also, colour is new to me, most of my layouts are generic black and white, so it took me a while to come up with some colours to use. It is something more people have commented on though, so I'll be sure to have a look at those links. Thanks for the feedback. |
