Default your honest opinion

I am not very experienced in web design, site marketing, etc. and would like an honest opinion of my site:

http://www.moodflow.com

Currently I sell 2 screensavers of custom digital artwork I have done, as well as a few other screensavers (affiliate) that I feel are pretty good and compliment the site.

I am 'considering' putting adsense on the site to generate additional $$$, but still not sure yet. As for google, I turn up on the front page for the more specific search terms, like "mood wallpaper", but not for general terms, like "screensaver" or "wallpaper". I might not be able to get to this point.

The site itself costs me little (like $8/month), and the profit ranges from $100-$400 per month in sales on average. The site recieves 200-300 visitors per day (on average).

However, if it appears that it could make even more, I would definitely consider expanding the site.

Overall, I am trying to keep this as simple as possible.

Any positive/negative inputs are appreciated!

Thank you,

Default Very nice :)

Hello,

I really like your site, it's very visually appealing and direct to the point. It really does say "Buy My Art".

Speaking of which I think the art on your site is exceptional, I even out one of your free backgronds on my machine - thank you :)

I did notice that your meta-tags don't include a description. This may be one reason you don't place well in SE for the more "generic" terms.

Anyway keep up the good work.

Hey moodflow, one can quickly tell when a site's been around for a while and has seen some love, and this one reflects well on you.

So my famous rambling thoughts... so people like to buy things... and just darned near everywhere people go (web-wise) to buy things other than the latest Opeth album [which everyone should own, irrespective of their site design] has a nice chirpy background in some shade of white. I wonder if - because such things are quite effective, on your site in particular - you might not accidentally have put visitors right out of the mood to buy with the rather grayish background?

Also, on the products, I wish they were JPG and not GIFS - would be about the same size if not smaller, and JPGs would not show the 256-color limitations I see on the product boxes now...

You (though I can only guess) know your sales figures on a per-product basis. I would really think that - a quick glance at your demos page confirmed it for me - really highlighting your exceptional talent (i.e. the images inside the box covers) might bump sales heavily. If focusing on your top seller means the rest have to be smaller or down the page, I think it's worth a test month.

Or one other option that comes to mind is to have those 15/50/100 products in a (lighter, not space-nebula dark gray) row across the top, their names/prices/buy now links the next row (small font), and about 3 space-padded-slightly examples down below there per product.

All of which is my opinion and worth about $0.13 and only because I took the long route plus stopped for a Pepsi when you weren't looking. If it's of any help to you in wondering if I know what I am talking about, I can assure you that I don't - check out for example http://www.artmage.com and you'll see why this ought to go right to your garbage bin. However, while this site only got a day or so of attention and could be improved upon significantly, perhaps it can help you (without wasting your own time) look at some thoughts on lighter-tone backgrounds when heavy-color images are the focus.

Or not! But good luck, nice site, I also now have Orion wallpaper, yay!

Default Wow, thank you very very much!

Thank you so much for your compliments! As stated, I am not 'really' a web design or marketing type, but the site has been around since about 2000-2001 "ish", so I've had time to play with it and find out what works and what doesnt. I think it could look a bit 'tighter' and more professional still.

I'll definitely play with those recommendations.

Being a wallpaper site, I don't think it will ever become a full-time income site (which is a bummer, since I would love to work on this stuff full-time). However, I'd like to keep the site as profitable as possible...so I am still 'considering' google adsense. I am also working on some more products, but they take a VERY long time to make.

Many thanks again!

As was pointed out to me (By other very savvy members of this forum), try centering your site layout. On higher screen resolutions, the site tends to feel a bit "lopsided".

The shift toward center screen increased my overall performance quite a bit.

Wonderful artwork though!

One small comment.

Hit Counter on the site isn't a good idea. It puts it back to old-school.

Design isn't "my" style, but that is cool. If it works - then it works. I agree about centering the site. I wonder if you would see an increase in interest if you made it more "professional" (Maybe not).

That's my $0.11 worth.

Look at other sites in the same industry. Try to find out if they are successful and see what you might change. Maybe nothing, but it is worth a look.

Hmmm...

Their is no design structure to your site. Right now it looks like a "home page" site, a site I would download a screensaver from but NOT buy one.

Look around the web and find a site that does something similar to what you do that makes you want to buy from. If I don't trust your site then why would I trust your product? Honestly, I didn't even get past the first page.

I'm not trying to discourage you, the "home page" design is just far outdated.

Okay I took a pretty good look at your site. I am a novice level designer, so I did not look at the technical code aspects... but I know what I like.

I think a light background would do wonders... the gloom of the site did not make me want to stay.

I would do away with the gif's of the boxes and just pick the best screenshot free download pic for each set and use that as the appetizer instead.

A picture is worth at least 1000 words and yours are great, but you are not using your artwork to your benefit sales wise.

Give the visitor a taste of your art right off the bat... then they will stay longer and look harder.

Also when selecting the downloads, Each one that I selected took me to a different site. I realize that you probably have given exclusivity to the download network, But if not... put the downloads on your own site as well as listing with the various other services.

Make it as easy as possible for someone to come, see, and download... the less clicks the better... generally I am gone after 2 clicks.

Love the Artwork!!

I would just tie your text areas together. Use some visible tables, CSS or something give your website some structure like Jason Tor, mentioned.

Default I think it's cool

I love the layout and topic of your site. I have these comments for potential improvements:

+ I would put the featured links on a different links page +

+ The visitor counter on the bottom is regarded by many designers I've spoken with as tacky, but of course this is all a matter of perception: basically the visitor might not feel special when he realizes he's but an ant in this cosmic field we call Cyberspace. +

+ I would place the Adsense ads in a place where they would appear to be more aligned, as they now look a little off center. +

Other than that congrats on a cool site.

I'm a professional designer Jeff, and my site got slammed in here. That's why we submit them for review... so someone else can see what we didn't.
