Default Broekhuizen.me.uk -- Paintings

This is a site I have designed for a painter friend of mine, living on the west coast of Scotland.

I do appreciate any comments you have.

The use of the frame in the left for navigating the paintings is very innovative. However, the blue text (links) against the red image are not readable.

For the default page, maybe, it's better to start with a brief introduction about your friend Josephine before proceeding to the gallery. You may also include in the default page the info in the "help page".

I really like the style of the site, the only thing I don't think fits in are the links on the first page at the top - previous work, contact and help. I think they look like default links rather than designed links, whereas on the other pages they fit the style more.

Does that make sense?!

Also, how about some prices on the unsold paintings?

Thanks for your comments so far.

Yes, I was thinking of putting in prices, or at least price ranges for the work. (It is hard getting anything definitive out of an artist...)

I think I understand what you mean with the links on the first page, so I will have a look at it.

And I will also look at popping up some help when entering the site.

Discovered that your comments about the main page stemmed from a small error in the CSS file used for that page. Had missed out one } bracket... IE 5.5 didn't seem to mind but other flavoured browsers did. It is fixed now.

Working on the other issues mentioned.

Your site needs a nice logo.

I would get rid of the frames and add some text to the home page.

I would keep the look back ground colors and nav. bar colors the same from page to page.

I would get rid of the back ground and go with black I think it will help bring the pictures look out better now the background clashes with the pictures.

The reason I say a black background is because the pictures aer very light.

Thanks for your comments Janeth. I'll certainly discuss some of these with Josephine.

Why do you want me to get rid of the frames? I know they are not the flavour in a lot of people's books, but I understood that was mainly to do with loading other sites in a frame, not so much for the purpose I am putting them to. There is nothing to search in them for search engines (there is a noframes listing of the paintings, through which the search engines can get hold of the titles if they want), and I don't know of any other easy way to get a little scrolling gallery popping up a picture in the main window. Unless I would go into extensive Javascript or Flash, which I don't know very well, but then there are a lot of things to be said against using extensive javascript or Flash as well.

For me the frames I have never liked and that goes further then just SEO.

I just do not like the way they look
