G'day Peter - nice to see another Aussie around the place (complete with correct English spelling on his website :)
Nice site but it took me a while to work out the purpose. Even so, I'm still only guessing - is it a personal site where you use different articles to show visitors different aspects of who you are and why? It might be worth considering an introductory paragraph to let visitors know what they can expect from your site. A couple of quick typos: - Joe's (and his organic market) should have an apostrophe - the link to relationshipmistakes/index.html is missing the m (and is therefore broken) - Misspell is (ironically :) misspelled Your choice of Arial font is good but this is not installed by default on all systems. It is probably worth listing a couple more nice sans-serif fonts to cater for those using Linux or earlier versions of Mac OS. For those with Arial installed, it will make no difference. The sun and moon images in your top image-map would probably be better in GIF format rather than the current jpeg. Although the symbology of the stars in the first image map is obviously important, I found it confusing at first. Without looking at the link shown at the bottom of your browser (and many visitors won't) there is no way of knowing where you are going. It might be worth looking at adding image or text rollovers to differentiate the stars. The text links will still allow visitors to see the rest of your site if they can't see the rollovers correctly. The prominent text links are a great idea but the large number is a bit overwhelming. Consider categorising them (eg. people, environment, social justice, religion). Opening a new window with links (particularly links within your site) is annoying. This is particularly so for those of us who use tabbed browsing and dislike having additional windows opened for us. If we want a link opened in a new window then we can right-click on the link and do it ourselves. Load times aren't too bad but 18.7K is a pretty big chunk of HTML for a relatively simple page. Use of an external style sheet would allow you to take out all the individual font tags within the main document. You could probably also trim down the code a bit by hand (especially all the non-breaking spaces that Frontpage generates) Most of these things are very minor. What I really like about your site is what you *haven't* done. You haven't: - made the audio track automatically play in the background - used endlessly looping moving gifs - used a gratuitous Flash intro - used frames - used cookies Overall a nice, clean site. The only real suggestion I can make is to work on guiding the user more through the home page so that they can easily find the information that they are looking for. cheers and beers |
