Default Very Specific Question

As I am rebuilding TinkMusic, I notice that "at least" one of my pages is very lengthy. I originally set it up with text links to variations of the same type product.

First of all, I am not trying to get anyone to buy anything from the site, just asking for opinions.

This page concerns cymbals for drum sets.

"If" you were looking for cymbals, or any other product, would you prefer that it all be grouped on one page, or to view the specific items on separate pages so that the page is not so long?

You can see what I'm asking by looking here:
http://www.tinkmusic.com/music_equipment/cymbals.html

Thanks,
Happy New Year everybody!
Davey

Personally, I don't like long pages.

My advise is to cut this page at least in half. Your page has 704 words. We know that the copy is of critical importance to the overall results of your site. So if this page already ranks high, we don't recommend slashing it. And if it is not the case, try to remove some text from the visible area of your page also known as <Body>. It will help this page fit the recommended range of 200-500 words.

We did also saw a lack of META descriptions in your whole website. And when you are using one it's in most cases too long. It can increase your rankings if you would change those descriptions if they haven't got any positions at all in the major search engines.

There is one page of great concern. It's /music_equipment/music_equipment.html

This page has a size of 82 kb but a download size of 87kb. People will leave those ones immediately.

The animated gif "apollosaxes_1729_9692312.gif" is taking almost 90% of the complete page size. We are having a very fast connection but there are still people using 56kb modems or even lower. My advise is to remove this one and try to develop a new more expectable one. For instance by a basic image on the left and, on the right, a small animated gif with the lines you want. Because of the constant change of that image there is no need for 256 colours and probably you could change it to 16 colours. The background could be made invisible which will also increase the size.

In general we think that your website needs a complete review by a specialist to get high rankings (which we didn't checked).

Hi Davey,
The page is long but maybe you can organize the lists to make it more user friendly, if you want to keep it "as is". My thought is to create a subcategory under each category and then list the cymbals. For example:

Crash Cymbals (category)

Zildjian (subcategory)
* 16" crash
* 18" rock crash
Sabian (category)
* 16" studio crash
* 18" rock crash

If you organize the cymbals by maker and then list the types, I think it would help with the page content.

Always a big fan of music-related web sites. I spent a year with The Phantom Regiment drum and bugle corps - we toured the Lone Star factory in Texas while on tour, it was very cool! But I only know only how to paradiddle on a practice pad, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

I do appreciate the fact that you took the time to look at Tink Music, and respond with your lengthy opinions.

I really do appreciate this. I read every word, and am looking into your recommendations.

Being new here, I'm just very curious to know who you are referring to when you say "we".

I know that I am having many problems with Tink, which I am trying diligently to correct.

All opinions are always appreciated, good or bad.

I will, as soon as possible, remove the animated GIF banner that you mentioned. I didn't know that it used up that much space.

I'm trying to learn how to create web pages/web sites that are as near to being 100% relevant to the search terms involved as possible.

I do make mistakes.

I sincerely appreciate the time you spent. I also appreciate your advice.

Thank You,
Davey

I'm having a company, advising others about SEO and website rankings, working with some colleagues spread over the world. We can do a lot of things.

- I can see within some minutes if your site has any problems at all.
- Giving you advises about keywords (which ones to use and which not)
- Submission to the most important search engines with report of acceptance (which almost no one does)
- Reviewing your site in over a hundred points being of any importance in optimizing your website. (broken links, all kinds of Meta advises, Advises about your Title and how to optimize them, and so on.
- See if your website and SMTP or anything concerning your site is actual running (Connect time, Time on error and Uptime, Host ping, Download speed, Time-outs, Download time, DNS resolve time). Actually said if your hosting partner is doing his job”
- Giving you any advise about SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
- Generating reports about rankings on all search engines with different options. Generates reports about who your linking partners are and where they come from.
- Even getting link partners to your website (very time consuming)

And last but not least we do have a very tricky feature called "used keyword optimization". People who do visit your website are using keywords to get there via search engines. We know exactly which keywords they were using and how often. We can see how long each visitor is visiting your website and which pages he did visit and which page he did came in and which he did leave. Awesome don’t you think.

Everyone has his own secret. We have too.

What I did with you website was some advise. You have to go a long way just as I did have to go. I’m using my five computers one lap and four desktop PC’s every day working on all of them in the same time with a cable connection of 1Mb/sec. More than 8 hours each day over more than 12 years. Having more than 12 websites running by my own and over a 200 keywords placed on the first ten positions worldwide on a several search engines So you can’t compare me (us) with the general user mostly playing games (besides al standard windows features I don’t have a single game on any of my computers. I want to run my business or to stay on the beach with my wife).

So now you know who we are and what “WE” do. There is one thing. All those features we have are very consuming so it's not cheap to get it done. So what we advise you really is to visit webproworld.com over here you will find a lot of beginners but also a lot of professionals using this forum. It’s really one of the best forums you will ever find.

If you want to get in contact with us about website optimization or any feature we did mention use the Email button just above this message.

Thanks Bertus 1 for the explanation. I was just curious to know.

Thanks to everyone else for your insights. I'll certainly keep all of these thoughts in mind as I rebuild Tink.

I thought the page I mentioned in opening the post was too long, I just wanted to hear it from someone else.

I'll add a link to the revised section once I complete it.

This site is gonna take forever!

HAPPY NEW YEAR everybody!!!

yeah the site is indeed far too long. Good luck with it - I know what you mean, its easy to think you can just throw up a site then find yourself spending years on it.
