Default http://www.icemanwatches.com/ Review Needed FAST- Help!

Hi all!
I have recently been hired to optimize this site:
http://www.icemanwatches.com/
The site only went live 6 weeks ago and naturally the client wants to get his share of holiday revenue.
While my "job" is not design I see some issues that must be attended to- useability, navigation, clarity better use of space etc.
>>>I will reciprocate reviews and am only asking for a few moments of your time.

>>>What ONE thing would you change about the site design to make it 1)more appealing or 2)user friendly or 3)to give visitors a sense of "urgency to buy?"
Naturally I have a list of ideas but wanted to ask the Pro's on this site- I really value your opinions.
If you have a successful ecommerce site or successful ecommerce clients PLEASE reply to my plea. Time is short.
Thanks very much for your help.

Hi Red,

You wanted some quick feed back. Here is one most critical thing i felt when i vistied your website.

First thing you need to change the colors. I might sound a bit harsh but when i first looked at the site it looked more like a hacker / cracker site ... and it couldnt generate trust (at least in me). I luv black but look at this site and you yourself can see the difference in colors
http://www.nakshatradiamonds.com remember i didnt design the site.

And for a costly item like diamonds ....... it should definitely build trust .. I am afraid the logo is also not adding to it.

Another thing I suggest is complete use of space (try 1024X768 resolution) you will understnd how much space is being wasted.

Get rid of the mouse trailer
Get rid of the popup. Alot of people are using popup blockers, so half the people aren't going to see it anyway.
Page loading is too slow (40 sec on 56k ) -although the 1st 2 should help with that.

Maybe change the background, such as dark grey, just to break up the black a bit.

I couldn't disagree more.

I'm viewing at 1024x768 and having space at the sides is not wasteful. Everything is kept nice neat and tidy.

Ultimately, it's a personal choice, but...
The alternative? - if you switch to 1024, visitors viewing at 800x600 will have to scroll side-to-side. I can't think of much that's more annoying than that.
If you design for 100% the design(ie:images) get distorted, because you cannot size an image by percentage, It's a fixed size. The page will stretch.

I agree with the logo. and with everything else in the header it's all convoluted. The logo needs to stand out a bit more.

I would start by getting rid of the mouse over and changing the black to white at the top of the page and on the side.

The site is not bad and I think a couple little changes will make it look a lot better.

Thanks so much Janeth- I am totally in agreement with you. It's so difficult to tell people that have put weeks or months of work into the design of a site that it's a mess and needs lot's of repair.
We all get so sensitive (myopic) about our work and it takes someone without a vested interest in a project to give a TRUE perspective.
However, if YOU all say it, it takes the guilt away from me. I simply pass it along as expert opinion-
because it is! (;

>>I'm still looking for some candid reviews kids!
PLEASE HELP me to make the net a prettier place!<<

I don't think it's a mess - it's nearly a nice site.

Have you tried a dark grey background?

The standard colours are nearly all horrible, in my opinion, and cyan (fluorescent purple to me) looks cheap. Again, have you tried another colour? It appears in normal text and in rollovers.

I'd recommend a sans serif font - and no italics. Like you use in the descriptions. The mixture of serif and sans serif looks a bit messy to me.

You have some black text on dark blue backgrounds. That's hard to read. Dark grey against dark purple is, too.

For me, the color blue seems out of place in the overall color scheme (a shade of gray, for me, would look just fine). The dark violet background color behind the links should match with the color of the scrollbars (and with the text color on rollovers).

The text color of "HOME" and "ACCOUNT" (which in my screen appears to be deep pink) needs rethinking. And while on the HOME page, make the "HOME" link un-clickable since it's the active page anyway.

But I like the concept of the "animated" watch at the top left of the page.

Colors, colors, colors!

Check out this link that I use all the time to help my unfashionable self find colors that work well together.

I think you need to spice up your text also. Maybe a different font or change your css page to keep things more consistent.

Could be very good, but I agree with sudhani 100%...if I am going to a website to buy a $28,000 bracelet I need to see something a little more flashy to build trust. Not flash the technology, but flash the "BANG" you get when you go to a really great site.

You are selling Bling, Bling...that is your customer...design the site around that mentality and look.
