Default Protackle.Net

Hi everyone:
I have finaly worked up the nerve to invite the people I have been reading for months to review our fishing related website, http://www.protackle.net
I am a self taught design, and seo guy, and love the challenge of figuring out the search engines, and bringing more traffic, and commerce to our site.
Our homepage now is a pr-5, and some of our keywords are getting in the top 10 on G. I have a lot of respect for my fellow webmaster's out there, and would appreciate any advice or critique you have to offer that would help us get even better.

Default Revisit your font choices

Hi There,

Your site is really information rich and I can see why it is placing well on the engines, but the user experience is just not as good. Remember to look at your site as a visitor, not just a webmaster.

I know, I know, this is not easy ;-)

There are two things you need to focus on:

1) Fonts
The bold and italicized fonts are not working well and are illegible in some areas (your main graphic, top and center; the Christmas blurb; blurb at top left, not sure what it says...)
A lot of fonts are not outlined properly to show up on the web in anything but there "normal" configuration so they end up looking jagged and crushed online. I suggest choosing an entirely new font set for these areas of the site.

2) Loading time - very slow, not optimized.

The site is also a little cluttered, you have a lot of stuff on the Left side competing for attention but it really has no order or differentiation. It all looks so IMPORTANT that it overwhelms the user. You might want to consider rearranging that info under headings to make it more accessible.

Default Thanks mgillis

Thank you,

I know what you are saying. I think that I have fallen into the trap where you say to yourself,
(I want to do so much more) then end up overdoing it.
In upcoming months I am going to do some "house cleaning" of our homepage, and simplify the fonts.
I just hope I can do it without sacrificing our
information cargo. Repeat visitors make up a growing portion of our organic traffic, and I aint giving that up. Thanks again for your advice and critique.

I am hoping for more people like you to visit us and offer their opinions as well....Keep it coming!
