Default WebmasterInvestments.com - Quick, Eye Appeal, Organized?

Greetings,

Please let me know your feedback on my site.

http://www.webmasterinvestments.com

Key things I'm interested about:

- Does the site load quickly on the first try?

- Does the site hurt your eyes or is it appealing? Is it too bland or good?

- Can you navigate easily? Do I need to rework the site's navigation?

- Does the site fit properly on your screen resolution or does it look funny?

- Please let me know any other feedback you have.

Thank you!

Default WebmasterInvestments.com

Hey, here are my initial findings:

Quote:
- Does the site load quickly on the first try?
It took about 7 seconds to load using a DSL connection. That could be 20 seconds or more on a dial-up.

Quote:
- Does the site hurt your eyes or is it appealing? Is it too bland or good?
It looks like a lot of other sites with Web info. The good thing is that it must work okay, but there isn't much to distinguish it from other sites.

Quote:
- Can you navigate easily? Do I need to rework the site's navigation?
I thought the navigation was easy. However, the iframe in the lower portion of the main page spans the entire right side. There's no way for ppl with scroll wheels on their mouse (like me) to get past it unless we move the pointer all the way over to the left side of the page.

- Does the site fit properly on your screen resolution or does it look funny?
I thought it fit great (I use a 1280X1024 resolution).

I hope this helps!

For a 'Nuke' site it loaded fairly quickly. But it took a while to render in FireFox

Too much Info! Almost everything on the front page is nothing but an affiliate sales tool. Try to put the forums and some actual news and article content up there, too. A few well placed images and a little more color wouldn't hurt, either. Look at a few other heavily visited portal sites (read MSN, netscape.com, yahoo) and go from there.

I actually had to LOOK for the navigation, and I run a DotNetNuke site.

It looks pretty good all the way up to about 1152x864, at 1280x1024, the text is streched pretty badly.

There's been a lot of work done on this site, that much is obvious. I would make the navigation more obvious, especially the in-site navigation. Try adding a dark menu bar or other some-such interest attractor.

Tone down the blatant sales pitch on the front page. Instead post reviews, articles and other information that will make people WANT to buy this stuff.

Add a little more color to the overall presenttion on the main page. give the article headers some interest and eye candy.

You're almost there... Just... a...little...more.... ;)

Thank you![/quote]

Thank you both very much for the input. This site is my own personal site, so it is handled when I have the time (and is the reason I'm using a CMS). Your feedback has made me think about specifics and I'm currently working on more research of successful web sites to help improve on the site.

I will cool off the sales pitch and start focusing more on the useful content that I want to expose to people.

Thank you much.

Default color

I would add a lot more color. All the white made it look ... sort of 'unfinished' to me. I did load very quickly on my cable connection.

There's an error showing. Line: 225 Character: 199 Error: Syntax Error Code:0 on main.php. That's just one... I'm getting errors on every page.

Yes, the white is too bright on the eyes in my opinion.

I see the navigation is up top and stays consistent which is good. The site fit on my screen ok at 1024x768 on a laptop.

Good concept... I don't care for the logo because I wonder how clear it would be in print and it doesn't seem highly legible.

Lots of content and concept but maybe just needs some code crunching and some color to dress it up!

This is just about the usabilty not optimization. I didn't read the other posts either. I hope that I'm not to harsh to this is what I think, but the truth (as I see it here)is more valuable that nicities.

1. Don't know what Webmaster Investments is upon first viewing the site. Could define it in the top banner. You have 5 seconds to get this across to
a new user.

2. Too much space in the top banner vertically. Reducing it would allow more data to appear in the screen upon getting to the site helping 1. Need more of what the site's about here too.

3.Font size too small, dont assume their eyes are functional.

4.Need black font against that white background. It works the best especially for an informational site like, http://www.drudgereport.com.

5.Better descriptive navigation on the first screen view of site. "Web Links"? About what?

6.Shouldn't have horizontal scrolling. Don't assume they'll utilize it. I didn't know that you had the opt-in email box until I scrolled.

Don't have a "top ten" list...

Tish. Thank you very much for your feedback. It has been helpful.

"I would add a lot more color. All the white made it look ... sort of 'unfinished' to me. I did load very quickly on my cable connection. "

I DON'T WANT TO USE MORE THAN 3 COLORS, BUT I DID ADD A BLUE TOP ON EACH OF THE MENUS.

" There's an error showing. Line: 225 Character: 199 Error: Syntax Error Code:0 on main.php. That's just one... I'm getting errors on every page. "

I FOUND THE ERROR. YOU SHOULD NOT SEE ANYMORE.

"Good concept... I don't care for the logo because I wonder how clear it would be in print and it doesn't seem highly legible. "

I GOT RID OF THE LOGO. IT WAS SERVING NO GOOD PURPOSE.

-*-*-*-*-**

Paul, thank you for being honest. I need people to be as honest as possible or it won't help.

"
1. Don't know what Webmaster Investments is upon first viewing the site. Could define it in the top banner. You have 5 seconds to get this across to
a new user. "

I PLAN ON MAKING AN "ABOUT" PAGE AND AN "FAQ" PAGE.
I GOT RID OF THE TOP LOGO AND WILL PROBABLY TRY TO SUM UP THE GOALS OF THE SITE IN BIGGER FONT.

"5.Better descriptive navigation on the first screen view of site. "Web Links"? About what? "

The "Web Links" is a hand-picked directory of useful links. Ideas to rename it? Web Resources?

"6.Shouldn't have horizontal scrolling. Don't assume they'll utilize it. I didn't know that you had the opt-in email box until I scrolled. "

I'm working on the coding to allow the page to fit to most users screen sizes.

"Don't have a "top ten" list... "

WHAT IS THIS IN REGARDS TO? THE FORUMS?
