Default Nice Site - Couple Issues

Your site looks clean & professional, though when I went through the "methodology" sequence of pages, finally clicking on "request a quote", I received a "404" error.

Also, I visited one of your client sites (the art gallery). Some of the painting gallery (featured paintings & still lifes?)pages didn't align properly - paintings overlapping each other, and the right side of the 2nd line of links (on the top of the page)was not displaying properly. I'm using Firefox 0.10.1. I also got a "404" when I clicked on your sites "photography" and "contact us" links (top of page). That probably won't help achieve the desired result. : )

Hope it helps,
William

Default Some Observations

Hi,

I occasionally recommend web site designers / developers to customers, so I'll provide the same comments I give to all my would-be suppliers.

You are offering a professional web design service, therefore your web site must be an exceptional example - unlike ours, we don't profess to be a web designers :) And this means it should be well formed and coded.

You don't mention what your market is, so the following comments assume you want to be in there playing with the 'big boys'. I hope they help.

Site Coding

1. Your pages don't validate (http://validator.w3.org/) only minor issues - but there should be no problems at all. Because you've omitted the alt tags from the images the site does not display too well in text only browsers

2. I personally don't like to see java script in a site, especially when it is essentially unnecessary

3. You use a style sheet, but then use in-line attributes to over-ride it. All layout and design should be in the style sheet not in the content.

4. You use tables for layout - this is unacceptable from a design company

5. There is no apparent search engine optimisation

6. Broken links - reported by other reviewers. I assume this is because this is work in progress, and the same may apply to point 5 above.

Graphic Design

Firstly the client login area severely lets down your page design. The input boxes and submit button are not laid out - they all touch (IE6 and Firefox 1) These are also rendered in the browser default styles, I'd expect to see something a little more stylised to suit the site.

Secondly, I'd change the baby and furniture pictures on the home page. These both say 'personal web site' to me, not 'commercial'.

Thirdly, the left-hand menu, rendered in graphics, is rather blurred, and not as crisp and clear as it should be. The same effect could be achieved using CSS.

I recommend that you spend some time looking at competitors web sites, agencies etc. as these tend to be show cases for design and coding. It all depends on what your market is and your objectives are.

Just a quick impression of the first page - I'll try to give more stuff later.
Layout is clear, colours good and it all looks nice and clean.
Let down by your use of english though I'm afraid. If you really are trying to get a great first impression across, then you should be communicating this with no typos or mis-spellings.

'companies' should be 'company's'
and there's an extra 'to' in 'We want to you to be happy'....

.... sorry one of my great failings is that I pick up detailed stuff - and often miss the bigger picture :-(
Regards,
Mike
PS - Could offer a proofing service for you prior to you submitting to clients.

Default Thank you for all your replys

I want to thank you all for your reviews. I had two questions, do you think flash is essential to design and css layout essential?

IMO, I don't think Flash is essential, but if used correctly it can make for a very professional look. CSS isn't, but should be an essential for web design. After all, if you want to change a whole bunch of pages...well see what I mean.
