Default EngravedLighters.com hot off the presses!

http://www.engravedlighters.com

Here is a brand new site that is almost ready for a full scale launch and so I'd really appreciate all sorts of comments, suggestions, criticisms etc...

The focus of the site is selling customized lighters to people for gifts or memorabilia, or to companies for them to use as promotional items (like customized pens, stickers, magnets etc...)

After 2 grueling weeks of coding and doing the graphics I think it's ready to go under the WebProWorld Microscope.

Thanks in advance for all reviews and comments; I'll be more than happy to review your site in return!

I really liked this site for me at least. Brought back memories of the lighters that my dad had. I found this site very easy to navigate. Everything told me what to expect when I got there. Not a lot of unnecessary ads and other distracting things. I myself really like clean uncluttered sites. ( should practice what I preach ). Hope that your business lights a fire under someone.

Default Thanks for the Review!

One of the things we wanted most was for the site to be easy to navigate so I'm very pleased to hear you thought so!

Yes, your site is very easy to navigate. And the photographs are clear and show the products well.

My only concern is about the white box alloted for the adhearus space...it's really tight and doesn't allow all of the copy to be seen...and it distracts from your good looking page. But, I wouldn't be surprised if that's not something you have any control over.

Good luck with your products.

On the top navbar, the text looks too rough around the edges; the dark gray makes it difficult to read as well.

Engraved Lighters: Index Page

Not a good title for the page; you don't need to say index page on the index page, or if you do, call it a homepage like most users. Generally, though, the titles and headings shoudl describe the content of the page and not be self-referential.

The body text should be right-aligned, not centered.

"the impact and elegance of an engraved lighter cannot be undermined..."

"undermined" sounds very funny here

the image on the right does not help..."wowee" does not scream elegance...plus, when I first looked at the image, the lighters looked like toasters thrown on a scrap heap.

Your telephone number should be displayed prominently, and the link for placing an order should be much more prominent...after all, that's the purpose of the whole site.

"Please use the Navigation at the top of the page and to the left to find what you need, or use the form below to contact us."

1) there's no form
2) the reference to the navigation bars is way, way too self-referential; everyone knows what a navbar (though not necessarily so far as knowing it's called Navigation) is and their use is more of less instinctive.

On the whole, you should really take a hard look at your site, especially the words, and think in terms of how tightly it's geared toward selling lighters. Get them to the order page as fast as you can. An email newsletter would also be a good tool for generating repeat traffic among visitors who don't buy right away.

Best of luck.

Thanks very much Marty, but are you certain you saw http://www.engravedlighters.com ( the red and grey site) and not http://www.wackywillysweb.com (the black and orange site)?

There isn't any Adhearus on Engravedlighters.com, well, not the last time I checked!

What a good and in depth review, I agree with a lot of your suggestions and will be making changes.

I'll review your site as well (after I update mine though . . .)

Thanks!

Default Engraved lighters

Hi,

Nice site and your product looks good to.

I am not a web professional but I'll tell you what I think could improve your site.

I like the lighter Navbar it would look a lot nicer if the whole bar showed on the screen when you first log on(I use 1024X768 res - If you scroll down to the bottom of the screen it will give you an idea of how it will look. the top navbar could be made smaller by reducing the size of the lighter in the top right corner and move the top bar along (incorparationg the lighter into bar instead of expanding the hieght of the bar) to the right so that it is aligned with the scrolable main contents box(whatever you call it). The contents box thingy could then be reduced in hieght (to make room for the top navbar). It would then all fit on the same screen which would also eliminate the need to scroll the main screen down aswell as the contents box (which is abit annoying). I not sure if this will make much sense so I've made a picture.

I also think the lighter navbar could be sharpened up - maybe using similar quality images as the ones of your product(maybe even engraved with the titles - but I don't know how much that would effect the speed of your site).

I think it would also pay to have some idea of the pricing upfront - I would love to have one with a logo on (to sell on my site) - but would imagine they would be out of my budget. Maybe pricing for basic versions and some idea given for small, medium and large runs (and then ask customers to contact you from more complex orders).

How much are they anyway?

Anyway good luck

the image is here

You'll be able to fit it to the screen better - its just to give you the idea.

Thanks for a great review (and including image! that was very nice.)

At the time you saw the site, the prices for the breaks weren't finalized, but they are now.

Here is the link: http://www.engravedlighters.com/plac...e_an_order.php

The breaks are:
1pc $29.99 ea
2-6pc $26 ea
7-12pc $22.80 ea
13+pc $19.98 ea

Thats the final price, there are NO artwork prep fees, or any other sort of hidden fees.

Thanks again for a very good and interesting review!
