Default www.priceshark.com

We just finished the redesign of www.priceshark.com, we have completely changed the site. We added more categories, better search engine, and changed our payment method to cost per click, depending on which category the merchant advertises in. I would like your feedback on colors, functionality, search, and navigation, any ideas or suggestions are appreciated.

Default Nice!

I LOVE the colors you used! I did notice that Computers and Clothing have the same colors on their pages - is this an "oops"? The other categories have different colors (which is a good move, helps people to realize they are in a specific category).

The only other thing that I am not fond of - and this could just be personal preference - is the text bolding when you mouseover. I guess I just prefer color changes or underlining. The bolding is distracting to me.....

I really like your logo, too, very sharp.

I have agree with the bold over and add that I don't think it's down to personal preference. It just looks bad. If you mouse over at the bottom nav bar they jump all over the place, not very nice....

I think the home page looks a bit bare and there is no text telling the customer exactly what you are doing? Is it jsut another directory or does it compare prices? Why are you offering your service and whats it do for me. Ok when you get clicking it becomes obvious but you may loose many customers due to confusion before they get far enough in...

I must agree with the bolding links. I don't like them. I also agree with the homepage comments. There's something missing. You might consider making that "Search Compare Buy" thing more prominent on the page. Maybe center it under the search bar above the catagories. Some other explanatory text would also help.

I went into the digital cameras section and clicked on the 5.0 Megapixel link and that took me to the homepage. I assume that'll stop when there are 5 megapixel cameras to buy.

The idea is great and the implementaion is impressive. I like the logo and site colors. This is a site that I would come back to.

Default Improvements

We have listened to your comments and we are removing the mouse over feature. About the home page, we are thinking of adding additional text to give the user a better and clear idea what we do. We thought priceshark.com is clear that we are about price comparisons, but maybe that’s not enough. We also noticed the keyword category under digital camera is not working, and we are fixing that.

One thing we would like to know if there is anybody using dial up modem, dose the site come up fast and is browsing the site fast or is it too slow, I think the images are downloading slow and we are fixing that also.

Default Just When You Thought ...

Well, I finally made it in here.

Let's go over this point by point.

1> Remove the "More" links. That's bad and not very accessible. You do not want to confuse people using screen readers. Additionally, it shows a lack of creativity. Obviously, if I click the main category I will see all the subcategories.

2> Remove the Bold Hovers. As mentioned by others it is a major annoyance and shows the designer doesn't understand how things work. Set up your Hovers so they change the background or some of the visual affect.

3> Using FireFox, when I click the links at the top the page loads and then resizes the table. You have something wrong in there. I'd suggest testing your design on more than IE.

4> I'm not keen on the purple text for the top navigation links. I'd suggest keeping the visited links the same as the non-visited links. The active page change is fine and I like the subtle color changes which aids people in understanding which categegory they are in.

5> I'm confused. I went under Computers > Systems > Desktop and found no computers, but did find motherboards. Should you have desktop computers in that section? Perhaps you put the content in just to have content. In that case I'm in error.

I hope this helps.
