Hello all,
I have recently finished a site for a client and would like opinions/suggestions. http://irishmanliquor.com/ I would especially like helpful tips on how to get this site indexed on Google. They have indexed the main page several times, but have not crawled the site yet. Is this standard procedure nowdays? I have even submitted the site to quite a few other directories/search engines and Google still has not picked up the site. Thanks! Sharon www.phenixwebdesign.com |

When I checked your site with copyscape, several of the pages have similar/identical paragraphs as the site of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. I realise they are a govt site, so copyright issues may not be involved, but I tend to be paranoid about Google noticing similarities to other sites, and lowering rankings of pages if they are too similar. I would suggest rewording the paragraphs copyscape identifies as too similar.

Clicken,
Thank you for your kind comments about the website. I can only take credit for the design of the site, the content was provided by my client. My client wanted the site to be variations of green to reflect their Irish heritage and store name. Usually, I tend to shy away from using green (personal preferrence) unless a client requests it. I have bookmarked your site for my daughter, but I don't know any teachers. Have you tried emailing your site and information to local schools, or even schools outside your area? Thanks again for your comments. Sharon www.phenixwebdesign.com |

aeclark,
To make things clear, all the content was provided to me by my client - only the design/coding is mine. Even still, thank you for the heads up on copyscape. I have a section in my contracts regarding copyright - that all files (image, text) provided to me by the client is to be free from any copyright infringement. I ran a few pages through copyscape and, unfortunately, it looks as though a lot of this site's content is not original. Actually, there are quite a number of sites in the results that contained similar/identical text. Question - does anyone know what should be done at this point? It appears to me that if someone were to contact the site owner, any legal issues would be directed to the my client as they signed the contract and stated that I would not be liable. When I sign on a client, the text files are almost always given to me after the contract is signed and the templates are built. Web designers - do you check your clients content on copyscape.com before you published the site? If so, what do you do if you discover that the content is not original? I don't know what else you can do, to be honest. You've obviously done the right thing in including the clause in your contract, and made your clients aware of problems that might arise. it seems they are the ones making the decision to take the risks associated with using such material.
