Default www.ticket-auction.net

quick note: Hey guys, I have been a member of webproworld for a long time but as I have not logged on except to read some of the articles lately I have lost my password. So this is my new name even though on my old one I had been a very active poster. Please don't consider me to much of a noob

www.ticket-auction.net

I have been changing the look and feel of my site for what seems like forever now. I have had hired designers, graphic artist friends, laymen friends and just about everyone else look and comment but I am still not satisfied and have decided to ask you all as I remember how helpful your reviews can be! Please help me out here. Also, I am really only looking for commentation on the homepage for now :).

The site is www.ticket-auction.net

Thanks again,

Matt

ps: I will also be very eager to be begin doing some reciprocal reviews so if you want me to take a look at your site I can toss it to the top of my list, I am actually not bad at design but much better at tinkering with others then with my own :)

Not sure what it is but it just doesn't grab my attention. It is like there is no theme or branding or to many attempts at colour schemes.

There is also no symetry in the way the boxes are layed out.
Maybe a case of to many cooks spoilt the broth

Thats exactly the case (to many cooks)

Originally our logo was susposed to be our big thing that created the branding and caught your eye. Then we added that 'hot tickets box' which was also susposed to be a big thing. I think we have some decent components I am just trying to figure out how to put it all together... any more suggestions please lemme know, I am very excited to work on getting this to be as attractive and user friendly as possible!

There's too much blank space for me.

I don't like having to scroll down the page for information when there is plenty of space for it at the top.

Because I work on a reasonably large screen i end up with two very large blank spaces down each side of your content.

You could consider adjusting your tables so that they fill the screen. And bunch up the info better, at the moment you have a huge gap right in the middle of the page.

Gems- Thanks, The gaps on the side are because the page was designed for a 600X800 screen and we just centered it, I would love to have it so it takes up the whole screen on a larger screen as well but is there a way I can do this so that people with the a lower screen res do not have to scroll side to side to see the information?

Also, what information would you like at the top and where specifically do you think it would fit best?

Finally as for the large gap in the middle, that was just created yesterday during as during a removal and rearrangement of elements, we are currently trying to figure out what we could use the space for, I was thinking maybe advertising or 'your suggestions' section like on amazon that shows users based on cookies what type of auctions they have liked in the past... any ideas though?

one more thing, I was wondering if people could comment on specifically was my left navigation table, I am not in love with it but I am not sure how to improve on it...

Hi!

I like the top right corner of your site - very nice color scheme, easy to navigate and cute menu. But on the rest of the page you use too many colors.

I don't like left menu too. Try to change it... Why don't you change it with menu-style you use in the top of your website?

Good luck!

thanks guys, I just changed the backgrounds of the tables so they all match now and I think that helps alot. I also tried to take it down to one color scheme. As for the left menue, does the background change help it at all or should I still try to rework a whole new one?

as always any other comments are greatly aopreciated!

This might help. Should lift the logo of the page a bit and give the page a bit of depth.

Compare the difference
your logo

I can send you the psd file if you like.

THANKS! wow that does look a whole lot better please email me the psd to matt@ticket-auction.net :). Also I feel greedy for asking this but can we change it a bit so that the shadow behind the auction.net is a little less prominent like maybe a bit lighter and thinner, it looks good how it is but I think it may be so dark that you look there first instead of at the top part...

As for the other parts of the page. I am changing the bars on the featured auctions table to match the maroon color scheme used on the rest of the page. This should complete our transition to one final color scheme.

Also as for the big blank space, I was thinking of adding a section like on amazon.com and other sites where it just pulls up some different auctions the user may be interested in based on his past searches bids and auction watches... do you think this would be a valuble component or just a fancy waste of space that could be better used for soemthing else...

Default one last thing!

NOTE: a version of the page with the new logo (didnt put it on the index yet until I get the new psd) can be found at http://www.ticket-auction.net/testing1.html if anyone is interested.

Also, as always all other reviews and suggestions are desired and welcome. Will reciprocate any reviews if desired!
