Submit Your Site For Review Need a fresh set of eyeballs to take a look at your site? Have a specific issue or question about some aspect of your layout, design or interface? This is the forum for you. When submitting your site, be sure to discuss what aspect you are looking for input on. Just posting a link with the word 'review' isn't appropriate.

This is a good post and one I agree with up to a point.

The thing is due to its popularity Google is dictating what “content” a web developer should put on a given page.

For instance the home page on my new site has very few words “content” on it because that is MY decision as the developer. I feel it can be explained adequately with few words and adding more words would water down the message.
But in order to be ranked in search engines apparently I should waffle on sporadically placing the correct density of keywords and phrases on my home page.

Now with this post you are implying that I should conform before submitting my site for review, in fact I bet the Google home page would need some work before it could be submitted.

Have you noticed how similar all the websites are these days? Droning on about something just to appease the keyword density rules, regurgitating RSS news feeds to keep the content moving, link exchanges that the developer would rather not have.

If you are not careful it will be the “Submit your similar site for review”

I personally like to see the odd ghastly awful website because at least its something different!

So I’ll not be submitting my site..

How did I miss these? For so long, it's never really been an issue to me whether or not W3C checks out or not. It has also rarely been a problem with my surfers. Can someone explain to me why these types of validations are important for anything other than complying with an agreed standard, and if so what the importance of that is?

As is stands now, as a visitor to a website, I only concern myself with what does and doesn't work. I hardly check sites against Bobby or W3C.

Maybe I'm just missing the point here?

Be glad to hear back and be set straight if need be.

-J

And for good site design, use external stylesheets rather than internal. Helps with search engines, and allows you to better tweak your design later when needed.

Check your site at SiteReportCard: Web Site Optimization and Promotion Tools and keep tweaking until you get 'perfect' on all checks.

Check your site at The W3C Markup Validation Service and don't stop tweaking until your site validates. Flash insertion probably exempt(?).
Hi, I ran my site through these two engines, and am having some problems resolving some of the issues. Please see my post at:

Great post, with some great tools! Thanks for posting it. Although I'm more confused now, than I was. My first scan on InstantPosition gave me a 26 out of 40. Then I went to W3, and made some of the changes it recommended, and IP now dropped me to a 7/40.

As has been said by others, a lot of the errors and warnings from W3 are inaccurate, but machines do that, when reading English, so most of them I can disregard. In the first few minutes though, I found two serious problems, and have fixed them. So I really appreciate the links. They have been saved, and will be well used!

Oops! Why I did not check the post before submitting my site for review?. Sorry ha..

Tim, really outstanding post. While browsing the links you mentioned in your post, I found one link (bobby.watchfire.com/bobby/html/en/index.jsp) broken and did not get chance to check it out. As far as this site (sitereportcard.com/) is concerned, it is awesome.

Thanks once again for the wonderful post

Thumbs up Re: TIP: Before you submit a site for review do this...

What an excellent post. I'm almost embarrassed to have others see my site, but I've recently updated Dreamweaver from DW MX pro to DW CS4 and the difference is amazing.

I'm so glad I've found this site, I am in the process of learning about CSS and "Proper" coding. I can see I have a lot to learn and I am in the process of totally redoing my web site from top to bottom.

Just by learning to use CS4 I've learned I've made some very bad programming errors and decisions, which is why I am going to re-write my whole site.

I'm now on the road to getting it done right and look forward to learning and maye even adding to this site... even if it's not what to do, which I've done on my old site.

Note: My new site will not be up till around December of 09. My old current site will remain till I learn to do it right.

Just rambling and saying thanks... I've learned a lot just from this one post alone,
Dennis
