I will accept any and ALL constructive criticism of my online (collectibles) website. I am a self-taught computer gal and have done all the website design myself for my site.
http://closetcollectibles.biz Thanks ahead of time to all of you very busy people...I realize the "Time is Money"...and you have given me the BEST gift ever...well maybe NOT better than one of Mikie's Closet Collectibles!!lol [Mod Edit: Subject changed to be in compliance with Rule #1 -Brittany, Forum Host] |

The first thing that comes to mind is get rid of that mouse trailer. Most people find that irritating. You might also think about adding some tables to help organize your product a little better. The background image needs to go if you want people to buy from you you need to not blind them or they won't come back. Basically you have done OK for someone who is new to design and you are right on the money for doing some of the same things everyone does when starting out.
There are lots of things out there that look kewl but are really not needed on a website the mouse trail thing is kewl on a personal site but not really good for a commercial one. You want to focus more on displaying your product not kewl little webtricks. Like I have said to others look around and take notes from other people who have done sites that are successful. Get a feel for what works and then try to apply it to your design. MrUser theLASTPAGE |

I love to create mouse trails to, but never put them on my sites. I feel they are a good exercise for practicing your javascript skills, but most people may be annoyed by them.
The animated background may be another annoyance for some viewers. If you like the stars, make is a static background. The roll-over in the navigation bar takes a little while to load. I would try to eliminate the left to right scrolling. How about creating some frames so your navigation bar will alway be available. I think while you were in the design process, you wanted to show you skills. I used to be like that too, until I really discovered K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid). I was viewing the site via a DSL connection and some of the DHTML was real slow for me, so I can imagine what it would be like for a 56k connection. If you look at your taget audience, I would assume most of the people who would purchase from you, would be at a minimal navigation level at best and may become frustrated with your site due to the gooey effects. Hope this helps, good luck |
