Default Please review www.appleproject.org.uk

http://www.appleproject.org.uk

This is our first published 'layers' site and as such is a bit of an experiment. It validates according to W3C but I am aware that it is not accessible to text browsers, I'm working on an alternative. The site uses show-hide layers extensively and I'm a bit concerned about load-time of images on slow connections.

Generally I'm very pleased with this site, what do you think?

Thanks.

Default Very Nice Job

Very nice, love the site all together. Loved the images and the layered images worked very well.

I would add a logo, a top navigation (home - training - research - content) something like that. I would also add something that let people know that they can click on the thumbnails.

Great Job and good luck with your site.

Very nice and clean. I agree that you would probably need a logo on the top of the page (upper left), and perhaps make all the photos the same size. I noticed on a couple of the pages the photos weren't as wide as the text area.

Default Graphicwise

Thanks Graphicwise.

We did have a version where all of the images were the same dimensions but the client preferred the uncropped versions because they contained relevant elements, so we replaced them. It's a common problem, being supplied with varying format images (landscape, portrait) especially when working with a strict design format like this one. We persisted with equal dimension thumbs because they looked really bad at varying sizes.

With regards to a logo in the top left, and as a logo designer too, I realise there is a convention for logos at the top (or anywhere!) but sometimes it's good to break with the norm. In this case the client's logo is embedded as a background on the nav block and also on the right on the first page. Personally, I think logos are only really useful if they actually add credible perspective or nuance. Otherwise, they're just convention space fillers and 'home' links.

I'll talk with the client and see what she thinks.

Thanks again.

Very clean, fast loading site - one suggestion: you might consider clarification of exactly what your site is for on the index page. overall, very well done though
