Default I had a look

First of all, you have some very good animations. I like them. BUT, When I entered with intro, the intro finished, my popup blocker blocked a popup and then I couldn't go anywhere, no buttons, links, etc.
I entered again but without the intro and got what seemed like a different intro. Far too much animation. I got bored waiting for proper content. The box that zooms in with text content is too small.

This is only my opinion but hey, That's what you post here for.
Hope it helps
Dean

Giving your visitors what they want: I just wanted to enter the site without having to see all the animations. But no matter which option right clicked on I was faced with an animation. After a minute or two I was looking for the off switch for the music . It's always a good idea to give your users the option are shutting off sound without having to reach for their speaker button.

I need more content! highlight an edge is the great. But if I had to reduce something on the side I would increase the amount of text content and decrease the size of the images.

Well I guess that's it. There wasn't anything more to click on once inside of your site.

The graphics look awesome, but:

1. you are really hoping people coming to your site are hip with all the plugins and broadband connection. I'd make a non flash/non broadband version and detect plugin and redirect if not found (or something along those lines)

2. don't make me click a button just to see the menu ... most annoying. just give me the menu, it looks nice and fits the site.

3. might want to put the menu to the top or left

4. all i see is a big green thing on the first page at 800x600 so i need to scroll to even do anything
once i scroll down and click enter i need to scroll down again to click a menu button

This is one of the nicer LOOKING sites that I have seen recently. I do have some concerns.

1) Music on a site is never a good idea unless you are in the music industry. If you are hell-bent on the music, then I would recommend turning the volume down.

2) Is your target audience the ultra-hip broadband user that will appreciate all the spiffy animations, or are they businessmen looking for detailed information as quickly as possible? Who your target audience is should always be the first question asked when a site is going to be designed.

3) This is VERY minor, but I have spent most of my work day for the past six years in Photoshop, so I have to mention it. On the index page where you have your product with a reflection, shouldn't the reflection show the view from underneith and not a mirrored image? A true reflection would show the underside.

Again, this is a beautiful site for someone, just maybe not for your customer.

Hi,

I'm not sure why you have a separate page spawning. This seems unnecessary. Also, why don't you use tooltip text? With so many uncaptioned pictures, this would seem a small aesthetic concession for the sake of the user's convenience.

Further, your 'minus intro' option is not truly minus intro. The animation that results is irritating and unexpected. Most people dispense with intros, so why bother?

Cheers,
Matt

Default I had a wait

Nice photos and clever Flash but I had to leave the site because I was going grey! Soooo sloooow! You are right when you recommend broadband because on a slow connection (like the majority) its painful and actually it wasn't worth the wait. You obviously enjoy flash but I think you should decide whether it's a showcase for Rotohire or yourself.

I'm sorry I'm being negative, maybe I'm too tired, I'll have another look tomorrow.

very nice site graphically. id consider making the "enter" text on the splash page clickable - took a second to realize i had to select one of the +/- intro options. using mozilla firebird, the flash froze during loading... might be on my end, but usually dont have to much trouble with flash sites.

Sorry but I thougth it was awful the changing of the flash was miles to fast and the when it stopped you could go no where. Good idea wrong product it should be xbox games site or hip music site.

Default I want one of this toys !!!

What a awesome flash work! Congratulations.

Comments.

The general usability is ver far away from the standars (very typical in the flash sites) and make the navigation not too much intuitive.

The menu on the botton of the page is hard to find.

Music? Take it off. After 4 minutes in your page is so boring. I have found the control panel for the music at the end of my user session.

The enter with + into or -intro is not clear. I have try to make click several times over the "ENTER" word before realize that the link was under.

Thanks and good luck

Default Response is always heavy handed

I thought your site had some real strengths. In some respects it has components that are better then any I have ever seen. I do agree with some of the more reasonable responses people are giving you, but I have never seen an evalulation without getting the feeling that a few saying things just because. I am also always amazed by the "business image" comments posters make. How are we to know what business image works for your business? Best left to the business themselves!

I have to agree with every one else; nice animation, nice pictures but lacking in content. If I were the client I would be concerned about the sites "optimumizeability" for serach engines. As a company I would want the site to rank high on the search engines to get my products seen. Flash does not lend itself to Search Engine Optimization very well because the spiders can not read the content (Text) of a swf file and text is the most important element for SEO.
Other than that and everything else that has been said, I think that the site is great to look at and it may even be ahead of its time.

Default Hear Say

Some very impressive Flash. I really dig this type of work. Big images and unorthodox navigation. But it is only something I would use for say, my portfolio. I used to build all my sites in Flash thinking that was the deal. In fact, I learned Flash before Dreamweaver, but have since learned (still learning) the value of finding a good medium between functionality, design, speed, and search engine optimization. Then again, I am leaps behind most of the people in this forum.

I kind of felt the same way as Bootboy.

Good point, but I have to agree with other posters who feel the theme or image would most likely not be appropriate, or rather cater that well, to the target market of this industry, whether its investors, or consumers.

I like the older logo, the newer one is less legible and looks like a DJ or Club type icon.

Then again, design is all hearsay.

Good job man.

Graphics are very clear and beautiful - to a point. In some spots, loading takes forever. In other spots, they whirl in front of the viewer's eyes like a jigsaw puzzle.

I have no problem with music as long as you provide an 'Off' button.

Content is important so a prospective customer can take the time to read and process what you are selling or renting.

Regards,

I would have to say I would agree with most of the comments. I have a pet peave that nobody has mentioned really. The "- intro" doesn't bother me. Splash screens bother me. They waste bandwidth and don't provide anything to the user. To never see another splash screen again would be nice. Actually to be honest, a spash like you see on a PC would probably be what you need to handle the initial load issue.

BTW: I hate flash, but this is where it shines.

Default My computer is toooooo slooooooow

I like the colour and the look of this amazing machine, yet I am not patient enough to wait while the animation does its thing. I do have broadband but my computer may be too olde.
I would love to have somewhere on the screen that I could easily find to click on to quickly find out more about this machine. I do not already know the machine type numbers, and a link to a short form catalog page that translates the product features to type numbers could be what I really want. I would then possibly be more likely to look at an animation as I think about how this machine will benefit me.

Well I certainly dont call myself an expert web page designer but I do have a few coments about your site.
1. The flash is fantastic well done.
2. The graphics are very good except I also noticed the reflection of the equipment left hand side tyre needs to come down a fraction to meet the bottom of the other tyre.A reflection never starts half way up an object, other than that great job.
3. I dont have broadband and many people dont so you really need to look realisticly at the loading time
it takes forever 5 mins is far too long. Most people will only wait 30 seconds to see something (menu etc)before they will up and leave the site to go elswhere and you certainly dont want that.
4. I finally found the menu options and the sound turn off in the top right hand corner. You dont want menus hidden they are the lifeline of your business. Leave it open along the left or the top of your page.
I hope you are not too offended in my coments just trying to help.

Hi everyone.

First of all thank you very much for your comments and criticism.
We thrive on that and nothing better than human judgement.
However I couldn't but to wonder that some of the remarks were misplaced.
It's true that most people still have dial-up connection in their homes and offices.
It’s understandable.
The rotohire web site was designed and geared towards broadband use. It's was the number one criteria that the client wanted, and yes we did asked his the very obvious question "Who your target audience is should always be the first question asked when a site is going to be designed." and the site download fairly quickly on this speed.
Now that the speed dial up broadband question is out the way, let's talk about the lack of content that many post talked about.
The site is pretty huge:
It has 3 models and 9 machines, each machine is dissected and explored from all angles, and all assets and features are presented.
I suggest that you spend a bit more time actually navigating the site rather then clicking few sections and make a judgement that the site lacks content, I personally recommend the 3 series and the attachments section without forgetting the video section as well, of course you will need broadband... it Cleary stated in the enter page, an intro is not forced upon the user and a fairly basic browsing experience should get you going regarding the + and -thing......
The site dose not frees on Mozilla fireFox you may have a different plug in version.
It's been tested on all major and minor browsers.
The site dose not scroll horizontally, it's 760/550 px so on 800*600 it's fine, it scroll vertically like 90% of sites do at that screen resolution.
So given the restricted size we used to display on both resolution the menu had to be hidden but not entirely to gain a bit more space for the” huge" loll.. Content.
The music can be understandably annoying at times, we are not professional musician but we get by...
We and our clients can not afford to pay royalty for a commercial loop, so we try to make our own all be it basic, again the music was the client desire, and the controls are at the top of the interface with a spinning disc clearly visible especially if you’re on 800*600. :-)
Some of you think that there are to intros to the site but in fact only one, the seconded is simply a transition from the loader to grab attention; don't forget that this is flash,
But I do recognise that the music may be not at everybody taste but hey just stop it if you want and you can.
We wanted the pictures the size they are as they highlight the beauty and strength of the machine plus they are great shots it seems a waste to cut them down just like that.
You’re pretty tired of reading all ready heuh... I apologise but I only found out about this post and I felt that I hade to clear few point.

So the site was build for broadband,
You don't have to view the intro,
It's packed full of content from pics to video,
Yes you can stop the music,
You don't have to know about the machine number, that's why the site was build so you can know about it beside that number is the name of the machines and I can't give it another name, the point is click the number and you'll know the machine and what the number mean, how many times many of you clicked things that they don't know only to know after, out of curiosity or else, that's why it's great this internet...
The site is a marketing tool first and for most it has it's audience and it's targets, Dj type or xbox style, it's taking an excellent machine and doing what that machine do in the real world.. Spinning, lifting and shifting.
Last but not least I agree with the usability issue and it's something that we are very concerned with and we will implement it our future work
Looking forward to your comments and to see some of your work.
Regards
And thanks again for your comments,
Keep designing and be radical, otherwise the internet will be a very boring place indeed.
