My free online guide in the essentials of designing for the web: http://www.webdesignfromscratch.com

I've spent the last 6 months putting this together, because I found there was such a lack of information online about *how* to go about the process of designing web pages, and how to make those little decisions.. you know, what to put in a hyperlink, where to stick the logo, how to lay out a login form.. all that stuff that kind of seems easy but is actually really important and quite complicated.

WDFS aims to explain some of the science behind the art. All comments and criticisms are welcome! Please also leave messages on the pages that catch your attention for whatever reason..

Cheers,

Scratch

The site looks good, layout seems to make sense, and a good combination. A bit like Gerry McGovern meets Jacob Nielsen, with a dash of Zeldman.

Good job.

Although the points on no CSS, no Photoshop is an important point, it misses something. These need not be barriers to communication. I'd love to seem more on infographics, and how content driven design would be quite different from empty "content is king" hyperbole.

Well I'm not sure if you can really ask people to support you by sending in a donation when it is obvious that your sites has a money making purpose.

Giving away free stuff should be part of your advertising budget. Your free stuff is what gets people to continue seeing what you have to offer.

And in your case what you are offering for free puts you in the position of being an expert. And when people value your opinion and knowledge, they are more likely to be repeat visitors. And repeat visitors are more likely to become paying customers.

So If I were you I wouldn't ask people for a donation, I would instead encourage them to submit their email so that you can keep them posted on the lasted news. I would ask them to bookmark the page and encourage them to spead the word about your fabulious free 'Web Design from Scratch' computer course.

Well that's my two cents worth of "Free" advice.
