Default Help: HairSupply.biz

Hello everyone and thank you in advance for you feedback. I'm looking for ideas and suggestions to help make my site look and feel more like an industrial strength store rather than a spare time hobby.

Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Design tricks etc!

Very clean nice looking site but what I like and the search engines is text. Before I spend money online a site is going to have to make me trust it. That comes from the look and what it has to say. Your site jumps right in to sell me something.

Very nice site. Good job.

It could use some tweaking though.

As Janeth mentions, some text on the front page would be good. Not a big story, but give people a reason to buy from you. -a guarantee, a special

Page titles: I clicked on 'skin care' but on the resulting page as well as other pages in that category, there was no header that told me I'm in that section. People need roadmaps to help them find where they're going.

Is there a reason why you have the category titles & the text corresponding with each range as an image & not just as text? For one it looks blurry, and also as Janeth mentioned, not search engine friendly.

There is such a thing as 'too' impersonal for a business site. Are you Bill Gates selling me a range of beauty products? I woudn't know, until I went to your 'Service' link. I might not want to make it that far. As the guys above have said, I think on your homepage you need to introduce your business more.

Ditto to Cyanide about having your page titles to corresponding to each pages contents.

But otherwise....a nice site. Easy to navigate. Good colour choice.

Good luck :-)

Not an expert Web designer, but one thing that hits me when I look at your site is the lite grey text... maybe it's my age, but it was hard to read. And I must say that I almost felt like you were hiding something.

BUT... overall I really thought you did a great job! Good Luck!

Default How about a 800 number?

Sooner or later, you'll have to get a toll free number. When I shop on line, I'm calling the 800 number looking at the site. I find this the most convenient way to shop. Also, consider an 'about us' page to explain and build confidence to your potential customers that they'll get their product DELIVERED in a timely manner.
Now, please review my site, www.crafta.com.

A clean professional look. It is clear and easy to navigate but the home page is slow to load on a dial up connection - we're not all on bradband!

I agree with campbelldr regarding the grey text - it seems like an unnecessary hindrance to people who do not have 20/20 vision.

On the tools/equipment page it might be better to concentrate on the categories rather than makes. The logos strongly draw one's attention to them. I had to click on each to see what products they produced. It was only on a second visit to this page that I noticed that I could have used the categories on the lhs (grey text again!)

What does sign in do? When I tried it seemed to redirect me to the home page.

Default hairsupply.biz review

Looking at your site I found the following things:
1. Who are you? Why are you selling hair supplies?
2. Are you a real company? Business Experience?
3. Other information about skin care, hair products, etc would make you more expert.
4. Any specials or gaurantees?
5. Happy customers?
6. Instead of "Browse Category" and "Browse Brands" you should notate the category and brand type.
7. Haircare, skin care, and cosmetics should have more color in the site.

Without some of this info you cannot differentiate your site from others. You need to make your site sell.

Default Awesome Feedback

Thanks to all for your great ideas and recommendations. These are all great ideas that I will begin to incorporate into my site. Sometimes you don’t notice the types of things yourself that others notice right away. I really appreciate all of your help.

This is a great board!

Cheers,
Amanda

Hi. I looked at your site and have made the following observations:
1. The home page is too image heavy. This leads to slow loading times which can turn people away. Also, using images for text is unecessary. It would be much faster and easier for you to use actual text. Also, the text is hard to read because of the anti-aliasing in the images, and people just won't read the text if they have to squint.
2. You header is too large, and also to image heavy. The same layout can be achieved by using a few background images and text using CSS. I'd be happy to have a go at producing the exact same look, but I'm confident I could dramatically reduce the download times (I won't charge you, either!).
3. The layout, in my opinion would be better in a 3-column style layout. I think that doing the following could help improve usability: Splitting the page width into four equal sections, there would be 3 columns (one would cover 2 sections), the column covering 2 sections would contain catergories for browsing (the ones already used on the homepage), another would simply allow browsing by brand, the other could contain special offers, login boxes and other elements. Alternatively, two sections would be taken up by special offers and the other two would be taken up by the 2 different ways to browse (product type and by brand).
4. The sign in link simply takes you back to the home page.
5. The "Service" link is confusing. It doesn't tell visitors why it is there. The link text should match the heading of the page, so ideally it should be "Customer Service".
6. Ignore the suggestion to get rid of ASP.. that obviously a personal preference. You should use whichever language suits your needs.
7. The search box should go across the top (see amazon.com) as this is what most users will go to first, so the more visible you make it, the easier they can find what they want, the more sales you will make, the better visitors will feel about your site and so the more they will return.
8. After clicking on one of the product catergories, there should be product subcatergories as opposed to brands, but there should be an option to choose the brand.
9. For standard text it is best to use, on a white background, grey text that is only slightly lighter than black something like #333333

Hope that helps. If you would like me to have a bash at recreating your template to make it more optimised to improve speed, e-mail me at ppeter@vector-networks.co.uk
