Default www.thecommandments.co.uk - Band site - Updated

http://www.thecommandments.co.uk started as a just a site for friends, relations and the band to use. If it is to have a wider appeal it needs to attract people into the site, therefore I am looking for ideas and critique that will help to develop the site, it has already changed beyond recognition since its inception 19/01/04. I am also looking forward to reviewing other peoples sites and gain even more experience of how good sites are developed.
This was my first attempt at a site.

Default Review of the Commandments website

Hello Rippoffski,
If you are seeking a wider mass appeal, you will have to consider making a few changes on your site.

No blinking text
use only one scrolling text
use a textured black background
provide a way to turn off the music
avoid clashing colors scheme
Place the updated text on the bottom of your site
place your band only entrance link apart from your main site entrance

I really like your metal looking guitar player. I hope this information is helpful.

Hi, love the music!
On pages where you have a lot of text, I wouldn't use a dark background at all. Tests have shown (yeah, they've actually done research on these things) that people will not read "reverse" type for long because it's hard on the eyes. In other words, it's fine for a large headline but not much more. you don't really use a lot of white on black but what you've used instead is worse. The blue text on blue or black background is hard to impossible to read. So, I didn't make it far into your site. Sorry.

Hi designhead thanks for your comments, sorry you were not able to get far into the site. Your two arty sites are breathtaking, you are obviously very skilled. Will take on board the comments, without making the site too non Rock and Roll.

Default Re-Review of Commandments

Hello Ripoffski,
Thank you for your kind words. I took another look and your site is taking on a much more professional look. The sound issue was on my PC, not your site, sorry. I hope you much success.

First impression - while waiting for page to load all I saw was red text on white background - lookin pretty cheesy. I'm thinking maybe making the bgcolor gray or silver so that it will show somewhay correctly while waiting for the background image to load.

I'd move this "Latest News:... Welcome to the newly developing site www.thecommandments.co.uk " under the logo image. Why ruin the top, it would look great without that text there.

Bold text would definately improve readability. These italicized links are very hard to read: This page Gigs Video Guest book - visited links virtually disappear.

I've been using dark backgrounds on my site papersnowflakes.com for a long time and people do appreciate white bold large letters. (they tell me!)

Your jpgs need help.

Site is very slow loading in Netscape.
"quick navigation" doesn't work in netscape. Also looks wierd up there in the corner - like a whit blob against the grey background. It over powers the page and interferes with natural reading flow b making the eye want to return.

Hope this helps

Pat
