Default www.Geocities.com/Oceanroc - This is a bit unusual....

Hello,

I know that it is unusual for someone to review a Geocities site but I wanted to get your professional opinion on it. The url is http://WWW.Geocities.com/Oceanroc and I would welcome any suggestions on what I could do to make it more appealing. Thanks in advance,

Hello,

I find your background to be a little distracting when reading your text. Also the navigation wraps around because you have it on one line and in a large font.
This is a great site to experiment with different navigation:
http://css.maxdesign.com.au/index.htm

As well as keeping the navigation consistant on all your pages. Right now when someone clicks on your links and gets to another page, they always have to click back to home then reclick a different link.

I would keep all your ad's either on the right side or on the bottom of your page. Where that baseball ad is should be your logo.
If you are stuck finding images/graphics check out this site for great free stock photos:
http://www.sxc.hu/

And the date you can probably do away with to bring everything up further.

Keep things simple and easy. Lots of people don't have the attention span to do "extra" :) work when surfing the web.

Those few thing for now will help you improve upon your site. You have a great start!

Post back when you make changes :)

.Danielle.

Default A couple of comments

I agree the background is distracting. I would also make the print a little smaller overall. People don't like to scroll in order to find out stuff and you've got an awful lot of blank space on your page.

Thanks Danielle for your advice. It was yesterday that I ask someone what they did not like about the site and she suggested that I should remove the background.

I made the changes that you recommended and I want to know what you think or if you have any more suggestions. Thanks in advance,

Nicholas

Hi Nicolas,

I did not see your site originally and all I see is a white background. It looks a bit sparse. You may want to add something to it; a bar of color at the top and bottom, some graphics of the islands (I am sure there are some free graphics you can use), something is missing.

Based on what others experts have said, you may want to consider removing all the following:

<META NAME="Author" Content="Nicholas Dixon">
<META NAME="Robots" Content="ALL">
<Meta Name="revisit-after" Content="3 days">
<meta NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="FOLLOW">
<meta name="distribution" content="Global">
<meta name="rating" content="General">
<meta name="classification" content="Information">
<meta name="copyright" content="2004">
<meta name="language" content="english">
<meta name="doc-rights" content="Copywritten Work">
<META HTTP-EQUIV="content-type:" content="text/html;
charset=ISO-8859-1">
<META HTTP-EQUIV="content-language" content="en">
<meta name="generator" content="Created Using Yahoo! PageBuilder 2.60.18">

More for the bots to have to weigh thru.

Good luck and hope that helps a bit.

Michael

HATE THOSE POP UPS tried to figure out what whas wrong with my page as Pop up covered some of the text until it went away then I went to another page and there it was again. I think that not having your text go all the way across the page would be nicer, maybe you could use the sides for navigation bars. Making the lines of text shorter. Since I don't link the p/ups I didn't go past the second page. Need a little more paint. Some colors.

Wish you success.
Regards, Suzan :) :)

Hi Nick,

To get around the geocities ad on the right, you can try playing around with css using div containers to hold your text and setting the margin so much from the right to avoid the ad.
You can find many artiles on the web about css, some I found were:
http://www.devhood.com/tutorials/tut...utorial_id=672

http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I agree that the text size could be smaller as well.
Incorporating an logo and a top navigation bar will give your site more weight and substance.

You should also repeat your navigation on your footer too.

If you have too many navigation choices to be put up top(horizontal), you can try a vertical menu too.

Try adding pictures of your town Mandeville,Jamaica to your tourism, history, shop, etc pages.
Pictures help as a visual aid.
